-Mrs. George Hill, -wino has been
visiting. her. son, John,. and other
friends in the West for the past
year, retained home this week, • ac-
companied by her son, Lyle, who has
been in the Wiest for a*few months.
There was a very good attendance
at the Kelly Circle meeting on Thurs-
day afternoon last, in spite of the
weather being cold and stormy. Mrs.
G. McGregor presided, and Mrs. John
Watson gave a paper on "The W. M.
S. of the United Church." This was
followed by a reading from the Mis-
sionary Messenger, "If I were a wo-
man in Africa," by Mrs. W. Elliott.
Miss Martha McDonald also gave a
pane3 bearing on kindergarten work
in Japan. The resident took the
chair for the business session, when
it was decided to make two quilts to
be sent to 1St. Christopher House, the
blocks to be handed in at the Febru-
ary meeting. After the reading of
the current events by Edythe Bowey,
tbe meeting was closed with the
Mizpah,benediction,

,SEAFORTH: At the annual meet-
ing of the (Seaforth fire brigade the
following officers were elected:
T. Johnstone; foreman, C. Holmes;
assistant foreman, R. „Sproat; secre-
tary, 15, Smith; treasurer, G. A. Sills.
Following , the business meeting a
friendly game of euchre was played,
the winners being T. Johnstone and IL
Smith. The consolation prize went
to W. Gillespie. The prizes were do-
nated by the retiring chief, John Cum-
mings,
•McKillop: James ; Hernry Camp-
bell a well known and -most respected
resident of. McKillop for many years,
oassed away, -4 his home on the 7th

.ilealth for -almost. a year. A severe
attack .of plearisy was 'the immediate
cause of his death. Mr.'Campbell was
a son Of ,the late -Robert and Mrs.
'Ctinipbeleind was 'born and lived all
his life in IVIcInillop township. Twenty-
six, years. ago he,was Married to Miss
Harriet Dale daughter of the late
George Dale of Tueltensminh and un-
til five years ago fanned on.the ath

deceased mann' was of a quiet, unas-
inning-disposition, a 'suctessful bun
ion and a loving husljarin and lath.

and for 40 years a member of the Or-
ange Lodge. He is survived by his
widow and one son, George; also one
.brother, Robert A. 'Campbell, and one
sister, Margaret Ann, .both of Mc-
Killop. The funeral was held on Fri=
day afternoon to the Maitlandbank
cemetery and was largely attended.
The Pallbearers were; R. M. Camp-
bell, Wilson Campbell, ;Shepherd Dale,
Chris. Dale, Byron McGill and Wil-
liam Churchill.
WALTON: 'The annual meeting or
the shareholders of the- Walton Scale
Co. was held on Thursday evening in
Fred Miller's 'hotel. The secretary, P.
B. Gardiner read the minutes of last

meetng, which were approved, The
yearly report was -given, and the peo-
ple who have shares in the scales
were very much pleased with: the divi-
dend received for the small Sum in-
vested. Walton is one of the largest
shipping points in Ontario for a place

IKENSALL: At a meeting of the
Village Council Monday a resolu-
tien was adopted protesting against
the assessment here, and Reeve Geig-
er was instructed to bring the clues -
tion before the nent meeting of the
Huron County Council and insist on a
fairer equalization, Reeve Geiger, in
his inaugural address, reviewed , the
work, of last year, when also he was
reeve, and pointed put that the 'fin-
ances of the municiplity were in ex-

township in the person of Flora Dun -
i mason, widow of Thos. Learmont,
passed away at the age of 65 years
in Fergus hospital on Thursday, fol-
lowing an operation for .appendicitis
and gallstone. The deceased woman
was born on the 11th concession of
Grey, in 1862 and was a daughter of
the late Man and Mrs, Neil Duncan-
son. She was a member_ of Knox
church, Cranbrook. She had been in
poor health for some time but was
only confined to her bed for a week.
She was a fine woman and ;will be
greatly. missed by the community.
She is survived by one sister, Mrs.
John Wortley, Grey, and two .bnoth-
eA, Neil and William also of Grey.
Mns. Learmont has,resicled in Cern-
;brook for the past four years, since
the death of her husband. The fun-
eral was held on Monday endow:on

Owing to no minister being, stationed
at Knox church,. Oraidirook, Rev.
Fowler, pastor' of Melville ehtirch;

Andrew Jacklitn-John Heather, Has-
sell Knight, Lorne Taylor „and Jas.
'Clarke, all old friends. of the de-
ceased woman.

Society of Duff United church, Wal-
ton, has adopted the second Sunday
evening of each irionth for missionary
:study, "New Days in Old India" is
;the book that is chosen and used. 'The.
meeting was largely attended Sunday
evening. 'Mrs. Walter Davidson took
charge of the topic, "Going to School
in India," and dealt with it very ably.
Misses Ferguson, Love and_ Ritchie
gave interesting talks on missionar-
ies Who are out in that far-eff hind.
On the second Sunday evening in
February there will;be a debate, "Re -
;solved that educational work on the

FATAL ACCIDENT AT, GOD-• •

Thomas Lacey, aged 68, Cambridge
street, Goderich, was fatally in-
jured while at Organ Company about
8 o'clock Tuesday morning, He died
in the Alexandra Marine and General
Hospital at noon the same day.
-Ile was in'the sanding. romi, when

name caught in a belt attached to a
shafting. In a -second he was whirled
to the ceiling of the room. The ma-
chinery was immediately shut off
and -the injured man was hurriedly,
though tenderly, taken down and
rushed to the hospital, where he
succumbed about noon. Dr. A. T.
Emerson was the attending physician.

two sons in Detroit. ' •

Council met on Monday, Jan. 10th,
as per statute. Reeve Cox again oc-
cupied the chain,. with couneillors

Haacke to assist him with another
year's business. A letter from Mr,
W, Brydone township solicitor, was
read drawing attention to see. 80 of
the Public Schools Act, 1920, which
has not been complied with in many
"eases. Every school board should de-
posit with the clerk some ;security for
the dub performance of the duties of
the treasurers of their respective sec-
tions. This' is obligatory but council
feft•that this was for the school
boards to look after and took no ac-
tion other than to refer it to them
for their own safety.
