MAT CAME ACROSS
There are a- great many election
• stories going the rounds, but this one
the genial Mat Duncan, ex-M.P., of
Owen Sound, tells on himself. Mat

Mr.'Elnier. Paisley, who has been with
a surveying party in Northern Ont-
ario all summer, reports that he
has enjoyed the summer very much,
but he is ready now to leave the
wilds, asit is getting damp and
cold. Mr. Paisley will have to be
in Toronto by the 28th to register
at the University and may spend a
day or so at home in towna before
settling down for the fall term,
Mr. George A. C. Jones, who has%
been residing in Clinton- for, several
months past, leaves next week for
London, Ontario, where he joins the
staff of the C. S. Hlyrnan Co., as ex-
port representative. Mr. Jones has
had a great deal of experience in
the leather tininess and has trav-
elled extensively as representative
of an English company, with "which

he spent some years. alis worlt will
be somewhat the same with the
Lundell, company. Mr. Jones has

dence in Clinton, who will be glad
to know that he will in future con-
sider London his headquarters and
will hope to 'see him occasionally,

The Softball tournament held in
Londesboro on Saturday Tast was a
splendid success. There were twelve
teams present, the finals going to
Clinton in both boys andgirls teams.
The games were: Girls--Londesboro'
and Brucefield; Clinton and 'Ashfield:
Clinton, and Brucefield playing the
Mals . Boys—Londesboro and Ash-
field; Seaforth and 'Clinton; Blyth
land Brucefield; Auburn and Brussels.
In -the .semi-finals .Brusselsnd Blyth
played and Londesboro and\ Clinton.
The final game was Clinton and
Blyth.
Supper was served to the players
in the'basement of the q'ommunity
Hall after the games were over, '
Rally Day Service will be held in
the Londesboro United churtch on Sun
day next, the Sunday school having
charge of the morning service.
Dr. and Mrs. K. Lyon of Stratford
visited with the foriner's parents, Mr:

holiday.

Mr. and Mrs. J. Sanderson motored
to Toronto last week.
M'rs. J. D. Elsley and children, who
spent the Past week at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Easley, returned

Reeve Armstrong went to Mani-
toulin Island last week and purchased
several cars of cattle. We understand
he intended bringing them home, but
when he arrived in Toronto he was
.offered a good price and sold -thein all.
Grandmother's Day in the W. L will
be held in the community hall on Fri-
day, Oct. 8th, at 2.30. The grand-
mothers will give the program and
will .alsoserve a silver tea. All the
ladies of the community are invited
