the late. William. and 1V1n•s'. Scott, An
old minister speaking of the passing
of great men„ says `.`You never
know hioty great are the giants of 'the
:forest till 'they • are, laid low with the
woodsman's axe," Perhaps the truest
verdict on the life of a man is that,
given when. he is: borne to his grave.
Be that as it may, death does cast a
te`ider light and softens life's asper-
es.' In the case of the late Mr.
Scott,; there were asperites, to
soften, lint now ,that' he is ,gone we
can perhaps, see, him . with clearer
vision than when he was .alive. His
greatest contribution to life Was his
gentle, lnimble, g'racio0s personality.'
He loved his fellows and was greatly
beloved..by thernT;for with what tries-
sure we mete, it shall be meted to us
again. That was a sad and solemn
hour when his remains were carried
front the home, '~hick. he loved so
well and tenderly, and when fitting
{words were spoken, over him by his
friend and minister, the Rev. C. Ger.

vain; for in that hushed throng there -
were not a few hearts that were
stirred .and moved to follow Trim to
Heaven. A large -concourse of pdople
assembled to pay their tribute of 'es-
teem. Friends coming- from London,
Watford, Bo-wtnanville, Winghmfnc,
Chicago and Pond Mills, .and the cor-
tege which proceeded to Baird's eeme-
tery, headed by members of the, Odd
fellows Lodge, who took part in the.
burial service, was a very long' one.
Mr: Scott received his early training
at the school in the village and Sl S.
No. 10, later going to Clinton High
School, where be .• took a cense in
bookkeeping and business training,
after which 'lie• went into business
with Itis - father .'in the general store
and grain business,,continuing in this
untildeath overtook him. In 1908 Mr.
Scott received the a potntment of
Postmaster, whioh offic he held up
to his death. He was for many years
a valued member of the Union church
of the village, in which he was a trus'-
tee and also held the office of mis-
sionary treasurer, Ile was a faithful
Oddfellow and • a Past . Grand of
Brucefield Lodge, • of which he was
t'r'easurer for- • malty 'year's. ' A'' few
years ago- he was ,presented with a
twenty-five year jewel; In 1896 .he
was united in marriage to Jessie Me-
-Donald, daughter of'the late Duncan
and Mrs. McDonald. He was a devot-
,husband and father and leaveb to
mourn their -loss, itis widow, Iwo sons
and three slaughters, and his aged
nibther.••Whether in business, in play,
or in the sanctuary, he was the salve
quiet, cheerful,lovable man, 'who 'did
justly, loved mercy ancPwalked hum=
bly with his God.' 'NI higher; tribute

it was' impossible to think of him ,lit
any capacity whatever, without think-
ing of him as a Christian gentleman.
During his last two or three•years he
was a great sufferer and in all his
suffering, and pain, he played .the

• was ranted delegate to the meeting
of the; general council to he held in
Saskatoon . next week.

count case in North Intron is about

the Riding of North Huron. at the
last Federal election. George Spot -
ton of Kingham, Conservative oppo-
nent, 'instituted
ppo-nent,'instituted a recount before the
local Judge, who-threw•out a'number'
of ballots, with. the result than Spot -
ton leas. declared victorinstead of
Ring, An order from Mr: Justice
Wright of the High Court was the
next step. This 'order, secured by
James Ii. Spence, K:C., counsel for
Xing, directed. that those . ballots
thrown out by the local Judge should
be included. Thus Ring agaYn her
came the recognized winner. Spotton
appealed Mr. Justice Wright's order,
but the court of Appeal threw it out.
Costs, involved by, the high •Court
and Court of Appeal orders, amount-
ed to $640. These Spotton was-dir-
eeted to pay. - • -

Spotton argues: - "Notwithstanding•
