Anyone who expected April First
to be a pleasant spring day was badly*
' April -fooled.
There is some difference of opinion
as to how March came in, whether as
a lion or a lamb. There is no doubt at
al as iit went out.
to how
There is an old belief that March
Borrows three clays from April. To-
, day, April 1st, looks and feels as if it
had been kept over froth the middle
of January,
A prominent English lady is being
sued by a plastic surgeon for a
$1,000 fee, claimed to be due hits for
facial treatment but which she r•e-
fuses to pay. Perhaps candid friends
have assured the lady that the im-
provement is really not worth the

To- read the reports of the pl;oceed-
ings at the Legislature the past week
or so one would.imagine:that Sorne of
the members think of little else than
how to riddle some holes in the 0. T.

not seem to ibe representing their
several constituencies, but rather the
liquor interests.

The newspapers have been very
busy the past few days trying fb ac
count for the election of J: C. Elliott,
the newly -appointed Minister of La-
bor,.in West Middlesex an Monday,
• ad each one seems to have a differ-
•entereason. The only reason we can
. give is that two thousand odd of the
voters in that riding preferred "Jack"
Elliott to "Toni" T.`Iliot.

Clinton is either a very pro's`perous
town or a very stingy one. For proof
we would refer you to the financial
statement for 1925, which will be
seen . -found on page ?:. It will sen that1 b
the small sum of 8.40 wes spent in
charity last year, A town of over
-22,000 inhabitants which canrun
through the year with stick a small
expenditure for charity must surely
have a thrifty, prosperous population.
Because we do not admit that .it's a•
stingy one, sift

The Public Accounts Cotdntittee de•
aided after investigation; that the
Hon. James Lyon, former cabinet
minister, had been guilty of no ntis-
• conduct in regard to the dealings of
his company with the ;Government.
Some safeguards rnustlbe observed, of;
course; but it does semi a pity that
no successful businessman may :be-
come a member of the •Cabinet, in
• case his company may wish• to do
business with the Government. Few
men can afford -to withdraw from all
connection with business when they
• enter Parliament and yet it is the
• rnan who has made a success of his
gown business which we need .to _lock
- after the business of the Province or
cthe Dominion.
Sir Charles 'Symonds, famous sur
• ,goon, says that a little hot water with
"sugar in it serves just as well as alto-
hol as a bracer in case of fatigue
. caused by work.. This .sounds very
simple and it seems wonderful how
many interesting discoveries are be,
ing made. We'd recommend this to
• our old friend, John Itansterd, as a
"nightcap" on his return -home after
.a bard day. lie has oftencompinined
bitterly to us•about the difficulty of
obtaining the real "makings" since
the 0. T. A. came into force. If a nip
it serve the
arid water will • .
'of sugar a gx
purpose, why - everything's lovely
• again. We donot suppose he's ever
tried the hot water and sugar without
the "sticky":which he and others seen
: always to ',Save considered so esser-,
• tial.
"Bahl" exclaims the editor of The
'Stratford Beacon -Herald, in, conclud-
ing an article on a proposed building
in one. of the large American cities,
t which is designed to house its busi-
nese workers as well as; provide
office accommodation, "Living cooped
up like that int an eighty -storey plate.
of rick and steel and trying to im-
agine it's an existence! Lead as back
to the little five -room cottage that
has a porch on tlid front-, •a staff -
in , at the side,' bit of a
garden at the back and'alt atmosphere
1 of home, , sweet hone on the inside
and all around."- .•
The 13eacon-Herald eider is right.
'Twould only be an existence, net real
living. The Than who will , do more
for the race than almost any other in'
the next few years will be the one
who evolves a plan to stop the rush
to the cities; Ieaving the great mass
of the people free to enjoy the health=
ful environment of the eauntry. The
Motor car has helped somewhat. The
erection of large industries in the
smaller nlace@,wbnid do much more.
IKINCARDIl E: The death of Mrs.
Neil Campbell, formerly of the Town-
ship of Ashfield, of which site was a
pioneer resident, occurred at her
home here last week. Mrs. Camp-
bell, wbo was 75 years ofage,
fell
several weeks ago and fractured her
ern, this injury and the attendant
shock being the immediate cause of
death. She is survived by one daugh-
ter, Mrs. J. Leighead, jr., of Kincar-
dine, Her husband predeceased her
about two years ago. Mrs, Campbell
was a member of the Presbyterian

made with the „patented feature of a
