Wednesday for their home at Hawkes-
dale, Alta., after having spent two
most enjoyable • months with their
friends and relatives here and at
Clinton.
A number of the friends of •Mrs.
Walter Westlake surprised her on
Friday evening last and spent a most
enjoyable evening at her home.
Mrs: Westlake also entertained on
the occasion of her birthday on Mon-
day evening.
Mr. and Mrs, W. A. Mustard enter-
tained a large number of friends on
Tuesday evening in honor' of Mr. and
Mfrs. Dixie Balle', prior to their de-
parture for their home in the West.
The regular.' meeting of the council
was held in the town hall Monday ev-
ening, all members being present and
the reeve in the chair. A. request was
made by the chairman of the Library
board, askingfor an increased grant.
This was ,considered advisable and
twenty dollars, was granted.
There was •considerable discussion
re Hydro.. An effort is being mane to
have a dpecial act of Parliament
passed so that Bayfield can get Hydro
on the 'rural r51an..
There were two applications for the
office of village clerk, the applicants
being A. Dung and James H. Reid,
Couhciliors E. F. Merner•and J. Par-
ker favored A. Dunn and J. Pollock
and L, Thompson favored J. H. Reid,
so it'was Ieft;with 'the reeve to decide.
and he declared J. H. Reid appointed.
Mr. Abe Briondon purchased. a ?cr-
ayon horse from Mr. Fred Watson
to use on ;the :Bayfield and Brimfield
stage.
Mrs. Wm. Heard received word , on
Sunday last that her father, 14r. Al-
fred LS'cotchmer, had the misfortune
to slap on the ice and fracture his
thigh on the. occasion of his eighty-
sixth birthday, .while at the home of

cert: The fn'st'pa'rt of the program
eoltsistad of choruses, duets, readings
and•a monologue.` The second part of
,the program was put on by the ;der -
Ides, which consisted of solos,` chorus-
es, ;duets, recitatiens_ . and orchestra
music. After the program a dainty
lunch was served by the ladies. The
proceeds` amounted to a nice tidy sum.
The Holnresville Orchestra was assist
ed by the Cox Orchestra from Por-
ters-Ilil1, and the whole,prbgrant was
much enjoyed.
Mr, Brodgen McMath was up from
Toronto for a few days 'last week.
Mrs. W. ti. Lobb, who has been tak-
ing care of her daughter, Mrs. N. 3.

place on Tuesday afternoon,
