a Clinton boy and member of the On
tarso •Street congregation, and his
visit attracted -large -congregations at
both services. Rev. A. E. Doan, pas-
tor of the church, was in charge.
"The Voice of China" was Mr. Bea -
ton's morning subject, and in the
evening, "The Bright Spots in a
lalissionary's Life." Ile gave a vivid
picture of the work in.Chjua:

held at Jowett's Grove, Bayfield, on

George Holland, Clinton, and Charles
Holland, Seaforth, fainilies, were re-
presented, also . Mr. and Mrs. H. S.
Walker, formerly Annie Holland.

London. Relatives from. Seaforth,

Goderich township were present; al-
so Mr. J. B. Lobb of Galt, The day
being ideal, the sports were much en-
joyed.. All report having had a good

The funeral of the late John Steph-
enson, whose death occurred at his
home in Port Arthur on Friday, teak
place from hi old. residence, now the
residence of Miss Irwin, Clinton, on
Monday afternoon.
The Porn Arthur News-Chroniole
of Saturday had the following refer-
ence to Mr. Stepheeson's demise: , -.
"John Stephenson, resident of Port
Arthur for the past few years, died
at' 10 o'clock last evening after a
short illness at his home, 422 Am-
brose Street. Ile was eighty-three
years old, Mr. Stepheesou was born
in England, and came to Canada when
young, settling at Clinton, Ontario,
where for a number of years he was
engaged in the building and contract-
ing business moving to Port Arthur
eight years ago to make his home
with his two daughters,, Misses Em-
ma and Doreen, both of the Port Ar-
thur teaching staff. Mr. Stephenson
is survived by two daughters, Emma
and Doreen of 422 Ambrose Street,

two sons, J. R. Stephenson,
,of
London; Ont., and b'red of Spring,
field,
Mass., formerly Physical Direc-
tor'of the Y. M. C. A. Port Arthur,
Two 'brothers and three sisters also
survive, nainely, David of Duluth, and
Joseph of Souris, Man., and Mrs.
Dielsie, of Vancouver; Mrs. Tedford,
Chicago, and Mrs. Bosman, Wingham,
Ont, A short funeral service' will be
held at . the honne, 422 Ambrose
Street, this evening at 8 o'clock to be
conducted by Rev. D. R. Patterson of
Trinity United Church, Burial will
take place at Clinton, Ont., Monday,
June 24th."

good 'health until the day before his
death, when he. suffered a stroke,.
from which ho failed 'to rally. He
hadalways been very active and had
been going about hie daily duties
right up to the -last, He had 'visited
here last year, seeing -many of his old
friends,' but while his daughters plan-
ned to come east this summer .he:
had deelared his' intention of remain-
ing at home to look -after things dur-
ing their absence.
Until his removal to Port Arthur
some years ago he had been one of
• eCiinton's' best -know residents. He

The combined Household Science
and Live Stock Judging Competitions
were held at Clintpn Friday, June
21st. The attendance was,very good,
forty-eight contestants competed in
the Competitions. The results of the
girl's competition are as follows:

Competition there is good promise of

The Huron County Council field
their annual picnic Friday afternoon -
at Jowett's Grove, Bayfield. As the
weather was ideal picnic weather
there was 'a larger attendance than
usual. Sports were indulged in

Yesterday was not a very incourag--
ing day for the Ladies' Aid of the
United church, as they had planned a
strawberry festival. Indeed, it ioolc-
ed several times as if the event would
have to be postponed. But as that
was well-nigh impossible about four
o'Clock the tables were carried from
Miss Acheson's lawn to the church
basement, where supper was served,
and the program was given in the
church, later. 'There was a fine at-
tendance, the supper was excellent
and the 'prop= ' good. Those res-
ponsible for the affair were very
well pleased with the way it turned
out.
Mrs, John Cudmore has returned
home after a short visit with her
daughter, Mrs. Douglas Ward, of
Elmira.
