The, service in the United church
was very largely attended .last Sab-
bath morning. Rev. Mr. Johnson de-
livered a very impressivo sermon.
The choir of mothers rendered some
very, fine selections in honor ;of the
occasion. The Music was appreciated
by the congregation. •
Mr. and M'is.. A. Stewart and fam-
ily 'of
aviily`of Stratford spent Sunday as
guests of Mr. and Mhs. C. Watson,
Mrs. Quinn of Toronto lis,_ at pres-
ent spending some _time at the home
of her brother, Mr. W. Callused.
The many friends of Miss M. Cald-
well, who has been in the Clinton
hospital for some time, will be glad
to learn she is improding, though
Mr. Cowan, who spent the winter
months: with his daughter near Tor-
onto, carne up last week and is visit-
ing at the homes of his two daugh-
ter's,, namely, Mrs. Robert Townsend
and ,Ma's. Frank Little.

Portes is Hill
The Y. P, S. of Grace church will
meet on Friday evening. The meet-
ing will be addressed by Mi'. Audrey
Carter, a student at the Clinton Col-
legiate Isis titute,- on "Government
Control." _Ar good atendanco will be
appreciated.
On Sunday, May '26th, the Young
People will hold their annual anni-
versary service at 3 p:m. The serr
`vied will be in charges of the young
people and will be addressed by MT.
Wm, 1VtcNay, of Egmondville who
was successful in securing first place
Mr. and Mrs. -George lVi'oon recen-
tly visited at the home of 13.ev. and
Mrs. Kaine, Atwood.
Mr. and Mrs. M. Ross were in Clin-
ton last Satiinday.
Mr. Harry Riley was• called .to
New Jersey last Saturday owing to
the serious, illness of his brother, Mr.
Joe Riley. The service in Knox United church
last Sabbath afternoon was very
largely attended.
.Following `several - years of ill
health the death :occurred recently. of
Eva Dangerfield, wife. of Rev. James
Abery, Londesboro, at the residence
of her daughter, Mrs. James H.
Watt, ,19 Craigharst Avenue, : Toron-
to. Mrs. Abery • was formerly a
zealous and active worker in various
church organizations.. She was born
in Brockville, Ont, Surviving are
three d•siighters, Mrs. Watt and lVtrs;
Geo. Wilson, of- Toronto and Mrs.
Charles D. Gray, of Walkerville, and
one son, George Abery, Vancouver.
Funeral services were held from F.
B. Myer's funeral parlors, .2431
Yonge Street, Toronto. Interment
being made in Mount PIeasant Cem-
etery. Friends here sympathize very
deeply with Rev. NIr. Abery and his
family in their loss.
Mrs. Johnsen of Merlin was a
week -end visitor at the parsonage.

spent the week -end. at her home here.
Miss Isobel Stewart of , Stratford
spent Sunday with friends here.
The play, "Deacon Dabbs," will be
given in the hall Friday evening;
May 17th.
Mr. and Mrs. J. Mason of Merlin
visited at Mr. E. Bell's Sunday.
Miss Bessie Crawford visited over
the week -end with Miss Hazel Free-
man near Clinton..
Mr. W. B. Allen spent Sunday with
Mrs. Allen.and Mrs. Bell,
Mr. r. Ha'rry Riley was called to
Newark, N. J. owing to the illness of
his brother, Mr. J. Riley.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Pipe of Goderich
spent Sunday at the .home of the Tat-
ter's mother, Mrs.. D. Mountain.
Mrs. L. Flunking and Palma and
Elwin of Clinton visited at Mr. Chas.
Ruddle's over the week -end.

ily of Clinton were callers in • town
on Sunday.
Miss Olive Moon of Stratford Nor
mal spent the week -end with her
parents, Mr. and 1Vfrs. Geo. Moon.
Mr. Crich, formerly of the Molson
Bank here but now of Forest, visited
friends here on Sunday.
Mr. T. Millar attended. the funeral
of his brother-in-law, Mr. C. White
of Drayton, on Monday.
Mr. Charlie Weymouth of Strat-
ford spent Mother's day at his par-
ent's, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Way -
mouth,
Mrs. D. Mountain entertained a
number of her friends nn Tuesday, it
being the lady's birthday.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Taniblyn, Mrs.
J. Elsley and Mrs." 3,.Tamblvn, visit-
ed Westfield friends on Sunday.
Miss M. E. NfeDermid of Sandring-.
haan will address the Woman's In-
stitute on Thursday, May 23rd. All
ladies invited.
The W.IVLS. plan to have their an-
nual at -hone in the basement of the
United church on Mwiy the 24th.
A Mother's Day service was held in
the United church in the .morning
with a large attendance. Appropriate
Music was, rendered by the mother's
choir. The Sunday school occupied
the centre of the church 'and the
form of service prepared' for the chis
was observed. A very inspiring ad-
dress was given by the pastor„ -Rev.
