The ran Alone Incident
New York ,Sun: There le no'ques-
tioti of the character of the vessel that
was sunk by the Coast „Guard. There
may be a question whether 'she was
inside the twelve -mile li;nit when, first
chased by the petrel boat Wolcott.
There may be a question whether the
pursuit, first by the Wolcott and then
by the -Dexter, was hot.. But assuming
that Secretary, Melton is right in kis
statement that ,tile patrol officers are
correct in both these respects, tate
fact remains that the British Govern-
ment never abandoned the principle
of the three-mile limit and never ac-
ceded to tite application of the right
of hot pursuit in a case begun outside
the three-mile line, If the British
Government has decided not to press
this case, it undoubtedly is because of
the notorious character of the I'm
Alone and not -because La:don re-
treats from her old contention,. At
that, it would be well for the two gov-
ernments to look calmly into the facts,
possibly making It certain •that' no:

actions on botch sides of the Atlantic,
shall occur again. •

The bungalow -built house stood on

his eyes for refreshment and inspira-

not visible from the 11i_1I station, only
from distant points higher up the

to.'these• heights; when a procession
of "dandies," or carrying chairs,.bor'ne

These were days.'of rare delight and
wonder. The agile servants, clad In
tate gay livery of the faintly, perhaps
a bright red trimmed with golden yel-

the winding roads in'- the wil: hills.
Unforgettable was the luxuriant
Jungle growth; the magnificent rhodo-
dendrons, large as giant oak trees' and
resplendent with deep crimson 'blos-
soms, the ground beneath them car-
peted with fallen bloom; the tangles
of rich bushes festooned• with dower-
ing creepers; and mighty fern -tassel-
led trees in whose branches merry
little brown monkeys, and solemn -
faced gray baboons, frolicked and
leapt from bough to bough, while
bright green paraquats fluttered int
the branches. As a traveler went
higher, rare dowers and ferns appear-
ed, and he might nick the tall "Suit"
lilies (Madonna lilltes), the rich vel-
vet -petaled gloxinias, the tall pink
saxittage, and the delicate black -stela -
mod maidenhair fern, Then, too,
there were those pretty Himalayan

Knowing that a better oil means smoother perform.•
once, longer life, greater economy and bigger trade.
in -value for your car, you'd probably go a long away to
be sure of a better oil.
That's 'what Imperial mil Limited did—went all the
way to tropical South America for the crude out of
which to reline Marvelube.
There's lots of crude oil available right at Canada's
front door. If Canada's largest and most modern
• refineries had been able to evolve as good an oil as
Marvelube from. locally available crude they would
have been glad to do so. Peruvian erode made a
purer, carbon -free, fuller -bodied oil—an oil that
meant better lubrication—so Peruvian crude 'was
decided upon.
The decision set a new standard ha motor oils. Air..
craft operators, the most particular buyers of oil, are
enthusiastic about Marvelube because it has given,
them a longer period of operation between engine
overhauls, and a greater margin of safety.
You can enjoy the sante benefits in your car, and
theles isa grade of Marvelube that is refined to meet
ihe exact requirements of your car. Consult the
Marvelube chart at good service stations and dealers
everywhere.
