"MAKERS OF ONTARIO"
The fourth of the University Ex-
tension lectures . was given in the
Ct111ogiate auditorium last Friday ev-
enfngi . Only a fair attendance being
PresOnt.
Prof. Sissons of the University of
Toronto, was the speaker and he took
'its his subject "The Milkers of Ontar-
io." There was some conjecture be-
fore as to the probable treatment of
this subject, whether it would be the
law makers anti public min,- or the
pioneers who would be occupying the
centre of the stage inthe speaker's
jlddres, Prof, Sissons chose the
pioneers, the real makers of any
young country, and his treatment
proved his interest in the subject.
He told of many incidents in the
lives,of the early settlers in Durham
Ontario and Simcoe counties, settle-
ments he knew, showing the resouce-
Julnes and undaunted courage of the
men and women who pioneered this
Province;
WHEN CLINTON VOTED
The Stratford Beacon -Herald had
the following editorial reference to
Clinton' in yesterday's issue:
"Not often dotes a by-law receive
such endorsation as one submitted,
to the 'ratepayers of Clinton the
other day. The purpose was 'to.get
the approval of the ratepayers to a'
by-law to grant a fixed assessment
to a local concern which desired' to
enlarge its premises. , The' vote was:
For, 376; against, 1,
A fairly carefuj review of indus-
trial success and expansionleads to
the conclusion that this- developement'
in Clinton is, along ,tbe right line
that is, an existing factor >
- which
has found a market'
for"its goods,
and desires td go on in 'a larger way.
Clinton, or any other place, is for
tunate in possessing' such "a concern,
and. Clinton,. or any other place,, is
sensible" when it is ready to treat
a home, factory .int such ;a ,way that
there is encouragement for it ,togo
ahead and grow in the- place where
it had its start."
THE TRACTOR SCHOOL
If the attendance and ':interest :-dis
played at thepower farming . school
held on Tuesday to the-'. town :hall is
any indication: of •the interest.' the
practical farmer -'has in modern farm-
ing methods, it: Shows that power
farming is here to. stey and is grant-
ing rapidly. All who'atiended the
demonstration seemed well satisfied
;that they 'had been givep ' a better
idea of what power farming really
means to the moderai farther. The
experieiide of local -Seeder oiirhers
has been such as to encourage'pitver
farming in 'this community. , With
the'- tractor much inor,i can be ac-
complished, of., course crops can be
gotten in earlier, and better. farmed, ,
•There were- about- one hundred in
attendance and all were much inter-
ested in the pictures shown and the
talks given. M;r, A J; MclVlnrray
of Il arriston and ' Mr. II. Moore c,
London were in charge, of the schooI,.
which was hold 'ih the interests of
Mr. -IM, J. Stewart, local agent for
the McCormick -Deering people.
