Clinton nominations were held ori
Monday evening, a fairly respreson-
tative- gathering of citizens being
present.
Mayor II. B. Combo was given an
acclamation, his being the only name
put forward, '.But for reeve, hip five
names were put up and for the coup
cil ten. ' Since, the old :council and N.
W. Trewartha signed up and 'Reeve
Langford and all other nominees foe
reeve andcouncillors dropped, out
Mrs. Trewartha dropped out as school
trustee: and Clinton will have no

Livermore said he would be willing

DEATII OF MRS, W. STEVENS
1Vlaria K, Daley, wife of William
Stevens of Clinton, Passed away > at
the hone' , of her son-in-law, Mr.
James McGill, Huron Road, east, on
Christmas Day, having reached' the
fripe old age of ninety-one years and
six months. -
Mrs. Stevens health had been fail-
' ing for abput a year and she grew
weaker each day until the end came.'
For some: time she and her husband
had been with Mr. and Mrs. "McGill,
they being' too £rail to be left alone.
j Mrs. Stevens was bern in England
and 'came,. with her husband and one
child, to Canada over sixty years
1 age. They settled on a farm on the
;9th of Ilullett and there continued to
live until about twenty-three years
ego when they dame into Clinton.
She was of a :quiet and retiring dis-
postiion and a lifd-long member of
i' the Methodist Church, having been
connected with.the Londesboro.church,
1 while residing in Hullett and with
i the Ontario street, now United,
church since coming to Clinton.
• She is survived by her husband,
; who has been quite ill for several
weeks, and four daughters and one
son: 1VIt's. Sarah Pengally, Langdon,
1 North Dakota; Mrs. ,John Clarke, IVIe-
Leoci Valley, Alta.;' W'• Il. Stevens,.
Seaforth; Mrs, McGill and Mrs, W.
Watson, Whitby. ,
f. The funeral took place front the
home of Mr. and Mrs. McGill on Fri-
day- afternoon to Clinton cemetery.
,.The services wore, conducted by the
1 Rev. A,' E. Doan and the palibearers
were her son, W. H, Stevens, two
son-in-law, 3, McGill and W. Wale
' son, two grandsons, W. Stevens and
W. 'NNJeGill, and a nephew, 3. Daley.

hearing Canon Hewitt on the occa-

he is to make a return visit, com-
mencing on Sunday, January 13th;
and continuing through the ,: week
following, He is a Bible teacher of
ripe experience, has an evangelieal
message that rings true, and is a pol-
ished and, --pleasing speaker.. Canon

:church, but his visit is to the people
of Clinton and his message to all who
will conte and listen.

DEATH OF KATHLEEN EAST
Much `re ' et 'was felt when it be-
came known here on Friday last that
Miss' Kathleen East had,paased away
that meriting in the Walkerville Hos-
,pital, where she.had been a patient

and liad stayed in bed for a couple of
days, belt she returned to her office
on the Friday 'before Christmas and

Miss East was born .at Parkhill
Dec.13th 1890 but had spent most
of her early life in Clinton. She
was a Might and winsome girl and
had many friends here and in Toron-
to; yvhere she had epent the past doz-
en years. Her early death is matter
for keen sorrow and regret. One.
sister, Mrs, Cuninghame, and three
brothers, Edgar of ^ Walkerville, Roy
of Calgary and Carl of 1VIStssey, sur-
vive.
• Mrs. Cuninghame went down to
tiirallcerville on learning of her sis-
ter's illness• and Carl came from
the north but did not arrive until af-
ter her death. Roy, Carl and Kath-
-leen had planned to meet as they
often did, for a little visit with their
sister here early in January,

winter'., it is hoped commencing on
Fri day,.'Januarylltlt. Further an-
nouncement will be made next week.

health officers have been discourag-
ing public gatherings and it may be
considered wise to postpone the first
lecture, -or it night be impossible to
obtain'.a speaker-. But it is hoped' to
get, started soon. •
DEATH OF S. F. CRICH
Sarah Francis Crich, daughter of
the late James Crich, died after a
short illness on Thursday last. She
was born in Tuckersmith but had
been a resident of Clinton for many
years. She is survived by two
brothers,' Iddo' and Gifford' of Clin-
ton, andthree sisters, Mrs, 3, E. Ball,
Tueltersinith, Mrs. •Modelnd, Strat-
ford,
ford, and Mrs, McDonald, Washington
•
State. '
The funeral took place on Saturday
afternoon, the service being held _ in
the Baptist church. Rev. R. B.
Gracie, pastor of the church,'. assisted
by the Rev. A. E. Doan, conducted
the services atchurch and graveside.
The pallbearers were: Harold Crich,
John Ball, G. A. Roberton•and Albert
Mitchell. Intermentwas made in
Clinton cemetery.
Me. and Mrs. S, Richards of Strat-
ford and many old friends -front Tuck-
ersmith attended the funeral.
EDWARD LAVIS PASSES
Edward Levis, an old resident of
Goderich ,township, passed may on
Sunday in the Clinton Public hos-
pital, where he hail been a patient for
a couple of days.
lulu•. Levis bad seemed to be in his
usual health gone and had to the
hone of his daughter, Mrs. Fred
Thompson, Goderich township, to
spend the Christmas' holidays, He
was remaining the week and on
Friday Morning complained of feel-
ing tired and said he would remain in
bed a while. He did so but his con-
dition becanie worse, a doctor was
called, end he was removed to the
hospital for treatment„butt failed to
rally. He was in his seventy-sixth
year.
Mr. Levis was born in Darlington
township but he had spent most of
his life in. Goderich township, where
he farmed for many ,years. The past
six years he -has spent a good deal
of the time with members of his
family. Three sons andfour daugh-
ters survive: Mrs. T. H. Atkinson
and Charles E. Lavin, Vancouver;.
Fred of Toledo, Ohio; Harold of Win-
nipeg; Mrs. E. 13f. Durst, Royal Oak,
Mich, and Ms. John Huller and
