It is sincer- ely hoped that the King's health may be restored and that he may be spared to exercise his wise and con- sidered ;lodgment in the affairs of the Empire for many years to come. .M. 9. •T Many and . varied have been the plans set forth by people for, the "keeping of the young people on the farms, At a recent gathering in Stratford; when the matter was being discussed, Mr,, George Laithwaite of Goderich township said: "The one • big trouble with the farmer today is that he won't put his money hack into the farm. There are too many in- • vesting in :pining stocks instead of improving their surroundings?' Hard work, keeping money for the devel- opment of the faun and beautifying • the home, were urged as solutions td the farm, problem. 112r. Laithwaitce has always, taken a keen interest in making his own farm attractive and has not stinted the spending of time, ,trouble and money in aceomplishing this end and what he. says :nay have more than a kernel, of truth in it. Mien and women will work at dis- agreeable tasks and under disagree- able circumstances lir order to make money but they, like,' to escape from these conditions for a part of the time: With the farmer his home and farm are his envirpnment during both work time and play time, Extra care needs to be taken that there is comfort and a degree of beauty so that boredom, weariness and along- ing to escape from this environment may not be the constant mental at titude of the farmer and his wife and. children.
