sary and thank offering 'services are
to be held on Oatober the 14th and en
the .16th the' annual hot supper will
be given, ,
Iiolmesville Sunday school held its
Rally on Sunday last. The program
consisted' of special music, by the S. S.
choir girls, and an address from Rev.
Mr, • Herbert. Others taking part.

The friends and neighbors of. Mr.'
Norman Mair gave him a surprise
on Thursday evening last by going to
,, his home to welcome him and his
bride into• this community. Ml Bar-
rie Walter acted as Chairman and af-
ter speeches were given by Rev. Mr.
Herbert and others an address was
read by 1Vfr. Lorne Jervis' and Mr.
Daniel Glidden, Jr., presented Mr. and;
Mrs. Mail, with a-handsoltle rocking
chair. The rest of the 'evening was.
spent in music, games and contests,
after which a dainty lunch was serv-
ed, The following was the address:
"Dear .lVtr. and Mrs, Mair: -We, your
friends and neighll,ors,.have assembled'
here this evening to congratulate
you on the decision you have made,
that of getting married and eoming
into -our midst to live, and we hope
that as you go around amongst us
you will feel that your decision was
for the best. And as we feel we can-
not express our feelings by mere
words we ask you to accept this chair
as a token of the esteem in which you

During the evening a short pro-
gram of addresses wore given, Reeve
Cox acting as chairman.
Addresses were given by Messrs.
Fred Elliott, R. Y. Cox, Leslie Cox,
J. McClure and others, who all paid
tribute to the high esteem in whish
Mr. and Mrs. Cox and Bertha were
held. The following addresses were
then read, that to Miss Bertha by
' Miss. Dora Harrison, the presentation
being made by Jack Gardiner. That
to M. and Mrs. Cox by Mr. J. Mc-
Clure, the presentation of,' a hand-
some purse of money and a quilt, be-
ing made by My. Allan Betties and
{ Mrs. Leslie Cox. '
"Dear Friends -It is with very sin-
cere regret we learn of your decision
to leave our community. As neigh-
bors, you haye always been the very
best, ready and willing to help any-
one who was in need of help. But it
is as' workers in the church we will
miss you most, especially in- the Sun-
day school, where you as superinten-
dent and Mrs.: Cox as teacher were'so
successful and held in such high es-
teem by both, teachers and pupils.
Likewise we are endebted to you in
the Young Peoples' Society, which you
had the honour and ability to organize
and wilich has been so beneficial to
our young people.: We feel that in
your removal you crea8e vacancies
which will be very hard to :fill. Not
guest of Mat Tom Potter, and Mrs.
Holdsworth the past week.
Congratulations to Mr. NI. Showers.,

Ms. and Mrs. C. Cox returned to
their home in Detroit on Thursday
last after having spent a week with
Miss Norah Ferguson.
On August the eighteenth the Koh-
ler Recreation Club of Kohler, Wis-
consin had a field day. Amongst oth-
er contests the members were given
balloons to send up. The balloons
were tagged with a number and a
request to the finder to return the
tag to the Club. Records were kept
and prizes were to be given. The
first prize being ten dollars to the
sender of the ballon that travelled the
farthest and ten dollars to the filler
of the same .balloon.' The following
week Wm. Mero, who is employed by
Misses E. and R. Snowden, Stanley
Tp., picked up a balloon ' near the
back of the farm. He forwarded it
to Kohler and last week received a
cheque for ten dollars for having
found the balloon which travelled the
farthest, a distance of three hundred
and ninety miles. The sender of the
balloon was Bobby Slaver of Kohler,
Wisconsin.
Miss. Bernice Seeds returned home,
on Friday last after having visited her
grandparents at Oro Station for the
past month.
Mr. and Mis. W. A. Hunt returned
to their home in London on Monday
after having, spent . the sum'lner
months at their cottage B

The stork called at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. T. 11. Elliott on Wednesday
of last week and left twins, a boy and
a girl.
Mr. and Mrs. Geo. M. Fisher and
little Miriam Fisher returned to Wat-
erloo on Friday after having spent a
fortnight with Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Ed-
wards.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Crane and
family of Detroit spent the week -end.
with Mrs. Crane's parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Richard Weston,
Dr. and Mrs. E. P. Lewis of Tor-
onto were the guests of Dr. and Mrs.
N, W. Woods.over the week -end. On
their return to Toronto on Tuesday
they were accompanied by Mrs.
Woods.
