The contractor for the portion of the north pier to bo constructed, has • commencetl opera- tions, and several men are engaged. with a steam shovel removing • the earth from the north,side of the old pier. •The contractor for the 300 feet of south pier has several cement blocks -placed -in position. A large gang of men is employed and the, work of moving the Life Saving Sta- tion which rests on the outer side of the old pier is almost completed, when the task will no doubt move more quickly. W. Eerrest, who has the contract of dredging the east end of the harbor is havihg the hull of the old schooner, "Scotia" blown up and removed The hull • has-been in its present position for a • number of years, and has settled into the sand and partially filled with water.
