Wiseman's mother, Mrs. Grant, of St.

Tragedy cast a shadow over the vil-•
lage on -Thursday last when Captain
J. A., Ferguson.who has been ill .for
many, months took hi life with a re-,
\solver,- The dedeased had been in the
habit of taking 'n short Walk around
.the lawn eaoh-rnoining,'-when he was
able at an early hour, On »Thursday
he arose before five oNck for his
usnal walk. Mrs. Ferguson. heard a
shot alid'rushed„.to the lawn to find
him dead. ••Dr: Mrni; F. Metcalf •was
summoned but. death was inetwatan-
eons. Coroner 'Dr. J. W. Shaw, of
Clinton viewed the remains and de-
cided that an inquest:was'not•necess-
' ary: -TM deceased had been very
much. depressd following- hia.long ill-
ness.' Ho was born in Goderieh town
ship June 21, 1867, eldest son of the
late Mr, and Mrs. John Ferguson. In
February 1906 he was married to Miss
Wyona Moorehouse who survives
him. For many years he sailed .the
lakes ht the office of Captain for the
Steel Corporation, It will. be remem-
bered 51*05 »hi the ' terrific storm of,
1913 he brought his boat with great
cliffieuity to port and was one chosen
to patrol Lake Huromafty the storm
had ceased. 0 Jn 1915 he retired from
'serVice and, since ,t1;ien, he haa. llyed
„gui'etely in BaYfield. He was a re-
spected and esteemed citizen of the
village taking. 05 active part in the
village affairs. .I -Ie served on the
