It was "regrettable that the weather
was not fair, thus preventing many
from attending. The play was given
under the auspices of the junior
Guild of Trinity Church. Between
acts members of the A. Y. P. A, re-
cited and gave a guitar solo and the
orchestra rendered several, selections
in their usual fine style,

,A drowning was narrowly averted
on Monday afternoon about two'
o'clock' when the fifteen -year. -old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.' Leslie of
Blyth got out bb and her depth while
bathing north of the piers. Mr. W.
11. -Beshop , of Stratford heard: her
screams' and plunged into” the' lake
fully clothed. .He reached her but the
under tow was so strong that he wa-s
unable' to get hen to shore until a
number of men formed a human
chain and thus brought rescued and
rescuer to safety. First hid -was
Ministered and the girl revived in a-
bout -fifteen 'minutes.

The community was shocked to hear'
'of the sudden death' on' Wednesday
evening of \John W Reid, son of the
late' Ma. arid Alta; John. Reid of Stan-
ley Township. Mr. Reid has not had
good health for -the past year but had
been doing his work as usual and. Was
doing the( chores when he dropped
dead about' nine o'clock. The funeral,
which wae largely .attended, was held
from his late residence in•Staniey
township on Saturday -afternoon, Rev.
W, G. Richardson of Waterloo con-
ducted the service, assisted by Rev.
F. II. Paull and Rev. R. M. Gale. The,
pallbearers were: Messrs. Walmer
Reid, Nelson Reid,t.Robt. G. Reid and
Garnet Taylor`he deceased who -'was`

the Scotch choir of Toronto were pre-

' 'There passed away at the home of
J. E. Howard Saturday, June 30th,
Ransom Fields, husband of Margaret
Fields, in his eighty-third year. The
deceased had been in poor health for
some time and cleat quietly away. He
is survived by his 'widow, also one
sister, Mrs. O'Dell of Oil City.
-The funeral, which was largely at-
tended, was conducted by Rev. F. H.
Paull, interment being made in Bay-
field cemetery.. The pallbearers were!

Miss Etta Bell, who is attending
the Westervelt bustness college, spent

Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Jarrett, at-
tended the wedding of their son, Dr.
Jas. Jarrett, to. Miss' Dexter of Lon-
don, during the week. Nova Scotia, the home province of the
Mr. Alex. McKenzie spent a few bride,

semble suit of shell -beige with hat
and shoes to match and carried an ex-
quisite boqueii of Ophelia, roses and
Mlles of the valley. ,She was given in
marriage by her cousin, Rev. Alfred
Fitzpatrick, principal of Frontier

her sister, Miss Naomi Chateauvert,
