dian authorities give American mag-
azines such a favorable handicap it
amonnts to almost the same thing.
'To allow Americans to supply Cana -
<Bans with clothing, boote, shoes and
machinery would have but the effect
of 1cMing Iocal manufacturing indus-
tries. But 'to allow them' to supply
the major portion of their reading is
not only discouraging literary indus-
try but filling the minds of our
young citizens with American pro-
. paganda, It might be better for
Canada to bring in clothing•free and
put a duty on magazines.
The lN;itchell Advocate celebrated
its seventieth birthday last week,
having been in the same family all
that time, the present editor and pub-
lisher being a son of the man who
founded it. The Advocate has this
