Mrs. J. H. Johnson and children vis-
ited London and Stratford friends
on Saturday, Mr. Johnston a.ccom-
anying them home in the evening
Miss Mahaffy had notice to report
for duty in Montreal at ten o'-
clock Monday morning and had to
go to Stratford Sunday to catch a
train to the east from Toronto
that evening.
Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Wilson of Royal
Oak, Mich., formerly citizens of
Clinton, visited Mr. and Mrs. L
Cree last week for a day or so.
They Caine over to attend the fun-
eral of the late Mrs. J. B. Switzer
of Goderich township.
VARNA
The annual meeting of St. John's
Anglican church, Varna, was held on
Monday evening, Jan. 16th, in the
church. Reports were read by the
treasurers of the W. A., the Sunday
School and the .church, showing a
favourable balance, with all obliga-
tions met.

LONDESBORO
Mrs. King of Bayfield visited with
her brother and sister, Mr. George
and Miss Sara Barr, on Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hall have
moved to the village and Mr. and
Mrs. Bernard Hall have moved to
the farm on the 13th concession.
Mr. E. Crawford is not improving
as fast as his friends would like to
see, but is able to sit Fiji a while each
day.
Mr. J. C. Adams is again on the
sick list. He was out on eleetion day
but since that has been confined to
his home.
The W.M.S. held their regular
meeting in the school room of the
church on Wednesday of last week
with a good attendance. In the ab-
sence of the president, the 1st vice„
Miss L. Young, took the chair. Meet-
ing opened with singing "It's the
blessed hour of prayer," followed by
prayer by Miss Young, minutes were
read and' the roll call was answered
by a verse of scripture with the
word Servo and the Paying of leer,
for the year.. Mrs; Geo. •McCall re-
signed the office of cor: secretary,
and Mrs. Geo. Mo•on•was appointed to
fill that office. After all reports and
business was over the, meeting was
left in charge of Group No. 1, Mrs.
M. Manning presiding. The hymn;
"A New Year is Dawning," was
sung and Mrs. J. Tamblyn led ,in
prayer. It being the first meeting
in the New Year, the program was
on the New Year. •Mr:e. Tamblyn
gave the scripture lesson, Mrs.
Hoggart read, "What the New 'Year
means be us," Mrs. B.'Brunsdori; a
reading, ''`Packing the Missonary
Bale,". a ' chorus was •sung by the

Miss Thelma Cudmore is visiting
with her sister, Mrs. Ward, in Lis-

The Y. P. S. held a Hard Tyme
Social 'on Wednesday, which was well
attended. A good time and an ex-
cellent program was enjoyed by all.
The program consisted of the fol-
lowing numbers: selection by the or-
chestra; guitar duet, Messrs. Gordon
and Lloyd Stock; reading, "Busy
Body," Mrs. S. T. Walter: solo, Mr.
Alex. Osbaldeston; duet, Viola and
Marjorie Gliddon; address, Rev. J.
W. Herbert; piano duet, Kathleen
Huller and Mrs. Hutchins; readings.
Mrs. Wilfred Jervis and Alena Tre-
wartha; duet, Misses Wilhelmine
Tretyartha and Ellen Charlesworth.
After the closing number, contribut-
ed by the orchestra, refreshments
wer4erved.
Tho' regular meeting of the Y. P.
S. wa held Friday evening under
the di ection of the 2nd vice .presi-
dent, Miss Frances Potter. After
the devotional exercises, Miss Laura
Jervis contributed -a reading, Mrs.
Les. Jervis and Miss MacDonald sang
a duet, Miss F. Potter gave the mis-
sionary topic. Rev. J. W. Herbert
then took charge of the election of
officers for the coming year, which
resulted as follows:

We wish to congratulate the re-
tiring Y. P. S. president, Miss Alta-

ing and instructive programs were
provided and the attendance was
good.
