The loss by fire in Canada ex- ceeds forty-five million dollars and 'the loss of life mounts up to over three' hundred yearly. You cannot • back life which is once lost and cannot restore the material lose nes ••easioned, so that fire loss is a com+ plete, irrevocable loss. And the ''worst feature about this is the fact 'that it is nearly all needless. It is ,estimated that over ninety per cent. of fires are due to carelessness. We sometimes complain about lack of wealth anti straitened circumstances 'in this fine young country and then we go put and wantonly burn up mil- ' lions of dollars worth of property • end this does not take into account at all the loss through fdrest fires.
