TO CLINTON NEWS -RECORD
Dear Sirs-:— ' '
Kindly allow me space in your val-
uable paper to correct statement
made by Col. Combe in issue of your;
paper of August 18th. It is true
that County Epgineer met Council
and decided that Mary street was in
shape to re -surface and it was sug-
gested by the council to elo the work
on Mary Street. It is also true that
Col. Combe addressed the council and
discussed the condition -of said street
last spring, but there was' one thin
he failed to discuss and that was the
financial end of it. When we. struck
oui rate in February we allottced
$2;000.00 for street allowance, thi/
amount is to take care of all -die
streets in the town for the year
Vdrains, weed cutting, snow plowing.
etc.) Council could not elnslnce this
project so I interviewed County En-
gineer ` so as to get our Rebate to
apply on our town streets, he inform-
ed nie that we could use this County
Rebate on County road going through
our. town, and we could also use it
on a designated Street leading to a
Public Institution connecting Pro-
vincial and County Highway, that
was why WO decided to lay this Re-
surface on Shipley street. If we had
done Mary Street and used the towns
funds we would have found our-
selves with a deficit of several hun-
dred dollars at the end oaf the year.
Ever since I ,became a public servant
of the town I have 'worked for the
best interest of the Town of Clinton,
I have no axe to grind as to what
street was to be re -surfaced fii•st—
If this work is a success and not too
expensive, it is the intention of the
Council to have all the streets re-
surfaced as soon as finances -will al-
low and I can assure Col. Combe
that if I am in the Council for an-
other year that I will bend every ef-
fort to have Mary street re -surfaced
and I can. assure him also that the
town council appreciates what he is
doing for the Town of Clinton both
as a citizen and as •a Manufacturer
and employer of labour.
I ask to remain,
Your humble servant,
