Walker, attended the forty-ninth
annaul convention el the Ontario
Funeral Service Association held
in the Royal York Hotel, Toronto,
last week,. where matters of mutu-
al interest were discussed, Dr.
Robb, minister of health, and Mr.
Martin, minister of Welfare, were
among the speakers present.
Mr:, A. V. and Mrs. Quigley have
been visiting relatives in Hullett
township and Clinton. They return
to the city, the end of the week.
Mr. Quigley, who has been with
the Saturday Night Publishing
House for the past dozen years or
.so, learned, the printing ,in 'The
News -Record office and he always
runs in to see us when he .comes
home and he is always a welcome
visitor. •
Rev. Mr. Charlesworth, who twenty-
one years ago was pastor of the
Baptist .churches of Clinton and
Auburn and resided in Clinton, was
a visitor in town over the week -end
and called on old friends. Mr.
Charlesworth, who is now retired
from active work, ls, residing ' in
• London. FIe+found many changes in
Clinton, many of the children whom
he remembered being now heads of
families and many of the older ,ones
having gone on.

The Clinton Box Lacrosse team has
started to get in shape for the fall
schedule, which starts ed ouncl !tide
first of September. The boys hope to
be in good shape to give a good ac-
count of themselves during the au-
tumn season,
LITTLE LOCALS
Mr. A. T. Cooper has had the wide
front of his variety store freshened
with a coat of paint,
The Wearwell softball team went
tt, Grand Bend Monday when an in-
teresting and well -contested gain°
was played. The resulting score was
1-0 in favor of the Grand Bend play -
bre.
The town clerk's office has been
re -decorated and looks very nice and
fresh. This was done while hfr. Man-
ning was in the hospital and was
quite a pleasant surprise to him en
his return.
The Brussels Post has been sold
to Mr. A. S. Kennedy, editor of the
Stratford -Beacon Herald, whose son
will take eharge. He enters into pos-
sesion on Monday next. The Herr
Estate has been publishing the paper
since the death of Mr. Kerr in April.
A TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE SUN
A total eclipse of the sun will take
place on the afternoon of Wednesday
August 31st and will sweep southeast-
erly across the province of Quebec
turning the day into night as it race:
out of the Arctic seas and disap-
pears into the Atlantic. Ocean. Not
until 1030 will another ,celipse be vis-
ible in the more settled Darts -of
Canada.
The shadow band of total darkness
travelling at the rate of slightly more
than one-half a mile per second, will
embrace an area one hundred miles
wide. As it pasess over the St. Law -
wenn River it will extend from the
city of Montreal to the village of Les
Grondines some fifty miles west of
Quebec city.
Large numbers of scientists frons
various parts of the world are gath-
ering in Canada in preparation for
the spectacle. •
