HURON COURT HOUSE
DECLARED OBSOLETE
GRAND JURY FINDS
Huron County. Court House was de-
clared obsolete in the report of the
grand jury presented to Mr• Justice
Wilson( who presided at the fall
assizes of the Supreme Court of On-
tario in Goderieh last week.
The report, presented by the fore-
man, Lorne Young, Goderich, stated.
"Our inspection satisfied us that the
jail is efficiently managed. The :build-
ing is in good and sanitary condition.
The six prisoners were well satisfied.
"There are 97 inmates at present
in the County Home. The buildings
were thoroughly examined and found
in good condition." It was recom-
mended that the four sum porches be
glassed and screened and radiators
installed, to provide needed space.
The cleanliness and efficiency of the
matron and her assistants ; were
commended.
"We find the Court House is ob
solete for present-day needs, anid.
strongly recommend that better seat-
ing accommodation be provided for
the jurors. The seating accommoda-
tion needs improving; more up-to-
date desks for His Lordship the
Crown. Attorney, and defending law-
yers, should be provided; with neces-
sary chairs." Up-to-date, lighting
fixtures were also recommended.
"We also find there is no suitable
:room for the grand jury, nor, for the
accommodation of witnesses. The
'vaults in the various offices- are over-
crowded," The report ,Suggested that
a main storage vault be erected in
the basement, to relieve overcrowding
in the. vaults in .the various offices.
"The • Iavatory accommodation is
eryinadequate. We suggest it be
nlarged ,and'modernized."
