The Princesses
Celebrate Peace
King's Daughters Mingle In
Gay London Crowd
Here isa pleasant little story in
the Victory Day spirit. It tells of
a chance encounter with the Royal
Princesses which befell Mr. and
Mrs. Aidan Thomson (the form-
er, BBC Overseas Presentation
Director) on the- evening of. the
. second day after the . end of the
war against Japan, The ' two "days
immediately following the end of
hostilities were declared public
holidays, and all Londoners—in-
.eluding the Princesses—enjoyed a
brief spell of relaxation in which
to celebrate the corning of peace.
*
An account of the incident was
-broadcast by Mr. and Mrs. Aidan
Thorson in Radio Newsreel. Here.
it is, in their own words:
INc were just turning in under
the Horse Guards .Arch when we
were held up by a collection of
ebeerful, 'laughing, officers, and
two pretty, laughing girls. The

"Don't mention it out loud please,.
They just sant ,to enjoy them-
selves and be. noticed as little as
possible:"
The speaker was a . tall, dark,
anxious -looking detective, pretend-

with the party but keeping a vigil-

'She Pr:neesscs looked bright
and bonny. Princess Elizabeth was
wearing a plain navy coat and a
dark yellow silk bandanna. ,Marg-

just as plain, and her bandanna
was dark red. They both wore lisle

enjoying the sights.

Indians have fought again for

them particularly, they have paid
income tax — this gives them
grounds to raise the familiar cry

Epileptic sufferers in Canada
will soon be able to lead useful
and almost normal lives in a spe-
cial home which' is under eon-
struction in St. Hilaire, a small
town in'Quebeb, as a memorial to
the Canadian soldiers' who fell at
Dieppe: Dieppe House, the first of
WI kind on the continent, will be
opened this autumn and will ad-
mit 100 patients to the central
building. Eventually a series, of
smaller houses will be built where
patients will be able . to live in
comfort, eomparatively free from
institutional atmosphere.
According to one of the direct-
ors, it has long been. felt that spe-
cial attention was due epileptics
who too often were sent to insane
asylums or other homes where
they had little or no opportunity
to lead ,useful lives, Menne House
is designed to provide' the patients

RECONVERTED BRITISH AIRCRAFT 'CARRJER'
With a brave war record to her credit, British carrier HMS Implacable is ready to leave .Sidney,

Colossal Effort
It is a significant fact, and ofte
that speaks volumes for the British
people, that their ' Government
spent a higher percentage of the
national income in paying for the
war than did either the United

Today the Government of North-

notwithstanding all the wiles and

Mr, Winstofi Churchill and other

have paid public :tributes to ser-

session of whose harbors, apart
front other 'considerations, has been
of the utmost value to Britain in
combating the st. marine menace.
The brutal and vicious air raids

to the Nazi recognition that Ulster
