At an impressive and colorful cere-
mony held at the Fort William
Air Port on. Tuesday, June 19th; two
members of the R.C.A.F., stationed
there for the job of spraying the
Nipigon forest area against the bud
worm 'scourge, were honored by their
commanding officer, Fit. Lt. T. C.
Cooke, D.F.C.
About fifty officers and men par-
ticipated in the ceremony.
Fit. Lt. G. H. Moody of Goderich
wai Presented operational wings, 1st
recognition '0'4 gallant service by
completing a tour of operatiths, and
W.0.2 J. F. O'Connor of Guelph re-
ceived his promotion to the rank of
•pilot officer.
nt. TA. 7. C. COokee is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. C. V. Cooke of Clinton.
A top ranking pilot, flying a
Canso plane, he served: on the east
coast for a year and previously to
returning to Canada last November,
served for a year flying around
Iceland and Scotland. For his out-
standing service he was awarded the
Distinguished Plying.,,Cross.
Flt. Lt. Cooke .stated, at the time
that the job of -spraying 100 square
miles of Nipigon forest is progress-
ing very favourably; with •a total of
74 square miles completed.,

Western Farmers Help in
•Huron
According to information received
from Agriculture Representatiise
Stewart, forty farmers from Western
Canada have been placed on farms
in Huron County. Their assistance
will be very much appreciated by
the local farmers, who will later
return the compliment and help har-
vest the Western •crops.
Twelfth of July Celebration

The regular monthly meeting of
the Junior Fanners' and Junior Insti-
tute will be held on Tuesday evening
buly 10th at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Middthten, Goderich Town-
ship. Girls please bring lunch.
Mr. Edward Wendorf of town, has
leased the store • formerly used by
the White Bros., in Iryth, and will
open out with a, complete _line of

his stock complete by August 1st,

Owing to the fact that Monday was
observed as Dominion Day, several
items of local news and correspon-
dence arrived too, late for publica-
tion this week. They aril be held
over for next week's issue.
Mr. D. J. Atkinson of London
recently •suffered a severe heart
attack, and is now sloWly regaining
strength. His many friends in C in -
ton are glad to know he is recover-,
ing ,his health, and hope that after

Orangemen will go 'to Bay-
field, this year, for their annual 12th
of July Walk. The parade will start
at 1.30, headed by the Lucknow Pipe
Band.
This is the one hundreth anniver-
sary of L.O.L. No.. 24, Bayfield, and
a good program has been arranged.

COUNCIL MEETING
The regular July meeting of Conn -
col was held in the Council Chamber
on Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock. Al;
members were present and Mayor
Agnew was in the chair.
A deputation 'from the Para
Commission was present at the
meeting and their treasurer Geo.
MeLay, presented a report on the
progress of the work to date;
also a detailed statement ot
the financial status, As
council, at a previous meeting had
committed themselves in the matter
of temporary !financial assistance on
the construction of the Park project.

meeting. The clerk was directed to
get guidance concerning the autho,
ity of council to give temporary
financial aid.

cial governments in response to our

war projects:

advised by letter, their planned date
for dust- layer spraying. -*
Appeals for refund of Hall rental
were received from the Clinton Lio,zs
Club and the Huron Holstein Club.
They were ordered filed.
The M.O.H. Dr. F. G. Thompson
reported. for the Board of Health and
stated the need and importance of
the Sewerage System, Di. Thompson
and Mayor Agnew were directed to
meet the Municipal Board and De-
partment of Health.- as a personal
deputation, at such time as the pro-
per authorities may be met.
Tenders for the position of Asses-
sor and Collector of Taxes were re-
ceived from five different appli-
cants, and it was moved by Rosve
Falsoner and .seconded by Councillor
McMurray that we accept, the appli-
iation of Hugh -Cameron as Assessor
and Tax Collector.
By -Law No. 12 for 1945, A by-
law amending by-law No. 11 for
1945, appointing an assessment com-
missiener and collector 'of Taxes

reading and passed. •

post of archdeacon. The announce-
