Life Is A Stage 9"."."4.0.4 B7 "PEG" ros Life is indeed a stage' and just hat part are we playing on that tage? As we look back over history we ind so many acts, so to speak which ave been,"put on by different peo- le. There have been noted men and omen who have played their Fart nd have shown to their audience, he world, that they have "learned eir lines", and were willing to make the "show" of their life a success. Then there are those who have done their very best to make life miserable for themselves and for everyone else. They have so lived that they have been Public Enemy No. 1. In some instances they have ended their lives in .a prison cell. A friend recently in diseribing her home life said her Father and Mother were .Scots and their home training was according the old time bringing up. The day opened and closed with the reading of God's word. Ifthere was more of that done to -day there would •be less difficulty with our young. people and our older ones as well. Can we look back over our young days and our home life and say in all sincerity, "My bring- ing up was very strict. We were not allowed to play on the streets till all hours of the night. We could go to the corner in the summer time and enjoy the evening with other children but whenthe lamp iwas lit at the cornerwe had to go home. If we did not it would not' be long until , our father would be standing there and we joined him and walked ,en home telling him all -that had happened. Truly life is a stage and We play on. that platform` from the time we—are born until we close our eyes ere we depart to the next world. As we look at a. a baby or young child we at times wonder' just What parrt they will be playing on the stage of life. A little child begins, to learn his or her lines as soon as they open their eyes in this world: A doctor who had just brought atiny life into 'r the world remarked that child knows nothing. What he learns you must` teach him. Parents do you realize the responsibility- that is yours when you accept the tiny life God gives you? One can tell pretty much how a child is being brought up by the way they act in company. If they are allowed to do what they like at home they will do the same thing when out. So often a' mother will say "George and I' can never have a peaceful evening now. Little Grant will not go to bed until we do and he gets tired and cross."A friend said to her, "Well now Mary, just whose fault is that? Let me tell you a story of our Ian." When I became able to look after him, for months, I felt I had to go up and lie down with him until he went to sleep. He was a restless child and at times I would be an hour or more trying to get him to sleep. His aunt used to tell me how foolish I was as I was just spoiling the evening for Jim and I. We had some one staying with us and could quite safely have left him. After this had gone on for months his aunt said one day, "Let me put' Ian to bed' for two or three nights. You go up with him and see that he is alright then come right away". 1 knew I was spoiling Jims evenings so decided to try it. I will never forget that first night.,' fixed him comfortably and said good- night to him and' went down stairs. Such a crying and pleading as there was from the Tittle fellow, "Mummy come a -get de baby, Mummy, come a get de baby". I started up stairs several times but his aunt, who really knew it was for the best sat on the top step and talked me out of it. Finally Ian quieted down and went to sleep. The next night we went through the same performance but it was not so bad and that was. the end of it. Ian had two boys of his own now and there is none of that nonscience with them. I was not used to children. Ian was our first and only child and 1 had no idea they could be trained so early in life. I have often recalled the doctors words. Even babies 'play their part on the stage of life. If parents allow them to have their own way in everything -they will rue it. Mary you will have to conquer your child before Inc gets ahead of you and starts on a downward•course which will spell ruin for him." • John D. ,Rockefeller Jr. in an ad- dress before a men's club declared that he could, not recall ever hearing his father say -a harsh word to any Little Strokes Fell Great Oa. When a Father or Mother sit at ,home of Sunday reading the paper or passing the time in some other way and send their son or daughter to Sunday School it does not carry much weight, but if parents say "come" it means very muck more in a child's life. ' Recently one of the most revered men of the British Isles passed to the Great Beyond. Earl Lloyd George of Dwyfor. He did not long live to enjoy the . Earldom which was con- ferred on him last January by King George. Those who had the privilege of seeing David Lloyd' George when he was in Canada recall thekindly face. He played a very important part on the stage of life., He started life without any advantages. When 'he entered .parliament he was an unknown Welsh Solicitor at the age of 27 and rose from there to the position of Prime Minister during the war of 1914-191$. The following is a good motto for parents: ('I am the child. You. hold in your hand my destiny You determine largely, whether I shall succeed or fail." We might compare a cliild'S life to- e spider's web. We learn from science that one thread of a spiders web will boar a weight seventy-four. times the weight of a spider itself before it will break. If a spider were to let itself down from the ceiling spinning a single thread, there would be no danger of it falling for tha'e thread would hold not only itself but seventy-four other spiders of the same weight before it would break, So too there is great power in an innocent child. They do not need to stand on a platform to say a piece, but many a parent has been led to Christ through their little son or daughter. At times a playmate will take a .child from. a home where Christ is unknown, . to a Sunday -School. There the child will learn about Jesus Christ and will go home and tell the story to parents to whom Christ means nothing and that dear little soul may Inc the means of bringing one or both parents to Christ. It may be they do not just "understand what has been said to them but at any rate they carry the message of Christ. One of the. most beautiful things, apart from Scripture is that saying by M. L. Hoskins which was quoted so beautifully by our King. "A man, standing at the gate of the year asked for a light to go into the un- known." He was willing to play his part but wanted a light and -the author says, ,"Go out into the dark- ness and put your hand into the hand of God. That shall .be to you better than light and safer than the known .way." How much easier it will be for us to act our part, as Christ.would want ns to if we put our hand in itis and ask Him to guide us. He will prompt us if we keep in touch with Him in prayer. • It is told of the great Scotch Sur- geon; Sir lames Simpson, that Inc was once, spoken to by a young man who wished to compliment him by asking what Inc regarded as his greatest discovery. The simple reply of the eminent scientist was, "My greatest discovery is that I am a great sinner and that Jesus is a great Saviour." A short time ago a man who". had been a circus .elown-in one of the big tent Shows walked into , the dressing room where-, he collapsed and died. Being a clown had been Ms life work for 30, years. He was paid for it but there are many who play their partin a similar way and they keep at ; it until overtaken by death even although not paid in coin. • You 'have a part to play 'oaf the stage of life hero and so, have 1.
