Weir. here will be a demonstration of homemade house- dresses and aprons. There will also ,be, the election of officers, Hostesses will be Mrs. Oliver ,Anderson, -Miss Margaret King and Mrs: W. J. Thompson. Corruther's Orchestra of Ripley, furnished music for a dance in. the `Foresters Hall on Thursday evening. 'The spot dancewas won by Marjorie 'McVittie and Elvin Plunkett. W.M.S. The W.M.S, cf Knox Unitel 'Church was iaeld in the Sunday School room on Tuesday with Mrs. '.Harold Snell in charge.` Quiet music was played by Mrs. Wtii. Craig on the violin and Mrs.` .Sydney McClin- •chey at the piano while the members were gathering. The subject of the meeting was "Living Hope" Prayers were offered by Mrs. Earl Wight - Man and Mrs. Jas, Woods. The president Mrs, Jas. Woods' took charge for the, business . period. A paper on "Temperance" was given by Mrs, Ernest Patterson, The topic "Count Your Manny; Blessings" was given by Mrs. Albert Campbell, Misses 'E•lma Mutch and: Sadie Carter rendered a duet arid Mrs, -Fared Toll gave a reading. A generous thank - I. -offering was received. Ladies Guild St. Mark's Anglican church Guild net -on Tuesday afternoon in the Orange Hall with Mrs. Gordon Tay- Ior in ' charge. The scripture was read by Miss Laura Phillips. Mrs. Geo. Hamilton told.the Guild that her grandson Fit. Sgt. Jack Hamil- ton was back in Canada and he wished to- thank the Society for gifts he'bad received while overseas. A reading was given by Mas. Betty Asquith and Miss Jean Kirkconnell rendered a solo. The topic "Test of a Christian" was given by Mrs. Thomas IIaggitt. The president Mrs. Nesbitt reported that on a recent visit to Toronto she had called on Miss M. Small, ,who is a patient in a Toronto Hospital and who sent greetings to all the members. Mrs. Geo. Hamilton auctioned numerous articles. Mrs. Taylor closed the meet- ing with prayer. Lunch was served. Ladies Aid The Baptist Ladies - Aid met on Thursday "afternoon at' the home of Mrs. C A: Howson who was in charge. The devotional period was taken by Mrs. Jas. Webster and Mrs. C. C. Anderson.Prayer was offer- ed by Rev. C. C. Anderson. Quilt blocks were made during the after- noon, and a patched quilt was given to the Red Cross. A reading was given by Mrs. Frank Raithby, Mrs. C. C. Anderson and Mrs. R. J. Phillips sang a duet. The topic :was given by Mrs. Glen Raithby: ,The secretary, Mrs, Earl Raithby read a letter from Sclate River thanking the Ladies A,'d for Missionary quilts which had been received'. A pot luck lunch was served. 'V • HULLETT TOWNSHIP. On Wednesday afternoon; April 4, the Itia.l~alot Club held their regular monthly meeting at the home of Mrs, 11. Trewartha, with a good atten- dance, The ladies enjoyed an . after- noon of quilting ,in which two 'quilts were quilted. Tickets were given_oet to each one, whichare to be sold on a quilt which is in the Agriculture window. During the 'afternoon' tielcets were Sohl on a towel 'end wash cloth donat:, ed by Mrs., F. McCabe. Lucky ticket going to Mrs. Frank McDonald. We mica-ow/edge with thanks ,two quilt linings donated by Mrs. 'Ii. Trewartha. Articles to be sent into the Red Shield are two quilts and 4 pr. of stockings. A ten cent tea 'was enjoyed which was served +by the hostess. The meet- ing closed by singing "God Save the Icing". The next meeting is to be held et the home of Mrs. Robt. Freeman on Wednesday, May 2nd. v BRUCEFIELD 'Mrs. Ernie Bell, Sylvia and George Harrison, of Toronto, spent last week • with Mr. and Mrs. F.. T. Burdge, Mr. and Mrs. Irwin and Miss Jackson of Winghamt, spent Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Bert McKay. Mr. and Mrs. Jas, Burdge of Goderich, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. F: Burdge. Mr. and Mrs. B. Kaiser, Mrs. R. McKenzie and Lois of Detroit, visit- ed in the village on Sunday. Mrs. A. Hohner and Pte. T. M. Hohner spent the week end in Exeter. We extend to Mrs. T. Grainger and family our sincere sympathy in the loss of a husband and father. Mrs. Douglas, Mrs. H. Dalrymple, Miss Marie Elliott, Mrs. A. Dutton and Mr. and Mrs. F. Burdge attend- ed the funeral of the late Miss Cairns at Staffs on Sunday. Mrs. Dutot and Bessie, spent a few days with Mr. and Mas. A. Hetet. 1VIr. Donald Ross of Galt, attended the funeral of the late Mr. Grainger on Tuesday. .Miss a Grace Dalrymple is -visiting at her- home this week, -after -Having her tonsils removed, at the Seaforbh Clinic on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Wan. Henry spent a few days in Toronto. - OBITUARY JOHN'GRAINGER John Grainger, a well-known resi- dent of Brucefield, died in Clinton, on Sunday in his 64th year. For many years, Mr. - Grainger was employed on the Q.N.R., and during the past few years was en- gaged in work' in the village. Surviving• are his widow, the former Olive Bowey, a son Ross Grainger with the Canadian Array in Germany, having been overseas four years; a daughter,, Evelyn, on the Staff of the Alexandra Marine Hospital, Goderich; two sistere, Miss Jessie Grainger, ' superintendent of 1116 Clinton Public Hospital; Mrs. W. ' A. Wright of Sea:forth, and a brother in the West, Funeral services were held in Brucefield United Church on Tues- day afternoon, conducted by Rev. G. 3. Atkinson, Interment took place in Ba'nid's cemetery.
