Hundreds of thousands of Canadians have long shopping lists of things they intend to buy when the war is over—new refrigerators, radios, vacuum cleaners, washing machines, cars—things they have saved for during these war years. Thousands want new homes. Industry will have a busy time meeting this pent up demand when peace returns. Private firms are already planning how to give you new and better goods than their competitors, at better prices. This all adds up to jobs and opportunity for all of us after the war. Royce Phillips is in Toronto with "his brother Arnold Phillips. Cpl. John R. Weir of Toronto spent the week end:'with his father Dr. B. C, Weir. The monthly meetingof the Wo- men's Institute will be held in the Foresters Hall on Tuesday July 18th -,at two thirty. A large crowd attended the sale of the estate of the late Mrs, Martin Armstrong. The house and lot was purchased by Mrs. John McLeod. -Harold . Jackson was the auctioneer. Miss Helen Merrill of Toronto is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Reber 'ton. Mrs. 'W. T. Robison is, i11 at her home. Mrs. Anderson, R. N. is nurs- ing her. Mrs. J. J. Wilson celebrated her 67th birthday at her home on Sun- day, July 9th, when the members of the family were - all present for a family dinner. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. 'Hugh Bennett, Port Albeit, Mr. and Mrs. Wes. Brad - 'neck, Pte. and Mrs. Harold Nichol - zee And. daughter Karen, Mrs. Chas. M. Straughan and daughter Vivian. A number of neighbors called dur- ing the evening. Mrs. Wilson who has been in poor health for some time is some what better. W. M. S. The W. M. S. of Knox United Church anet at the home of Mrs. h'red Toll on Thursday afternoon with ,en attendance of fifty-one. The meet- ing took the form ofa birthday pars ty of the society which has been held ' forthe past three years. The presi- -dent, Mrs. Jas. Woods presided and conducted the devotional ,period. "'The scripture .was read by Marjorie :Arthur. The following program was • enjoyed; quartette by Margaret Jackson, Mrs. 'Amos Ball, Mrs. Jas. ••.Jackson and Rorie Ball. 'The 'heralds were Mrs. Earl W'ightman and Mrs. 4as. Jackson. 'A. piano duet by Mrs. • H'arold Snell and Mrs. Sid Mcs <T;linchey:' A reading by `Mr's, 'Ken Mc- Dougal. The topic "Stewardship?, was ably given by Mrs. Harold Snell. A duet was rendered by Amy Toll and Mrs. Emmerson ;Lodger. The birthday offering was taken and Mrs, Chas. .Straughan closed the meeting with prayer. Lunch was served and a social time enjoyed. Baptist Ladies Aid The Ladies Aid of the Baptist Church held their July meeting at the 'home of Mrs. Frank Raithby. The meeting and a Red Gross quilt were completed on the lawn. The president Mrs. C. A. Howson opened the meeting and welcomed the new minister Rev, C. ` E. Anderson and Mrs. Anderson. The scripture was read by Mrs. John Raithby and Rev. Anderson offered prayer. A read- ing was given by Mrs. Prank Raithby and a duet was rendered by Miss Amelia McIlwain and Mrs. Earl Raithby accompanied by Mrs. R. J. Phillips on the harp. Lunch was ser - The Ladies Guild of St. Mars Anglican Church anet in the Orange Hall. . The program was in charge of Laura Phillips, who led the call: .to • worship. The scripture -was read ,by, Mrs. T. Johnston. Readings were given by Mrs. Alvin Leather land and Miss Luella Johnston. The topic was The Life of Francis Will- ard. Twelve members answered the roll call with a canning hint. the meeting closed with prayer. The president Mrs. Leatherland took cha- rge for the business period. An auct- ion sale was held and the proceeds of the meeting amounted to $4,17. Honored in death as she was loved in life the funeral of the late Mrs. Harvey McGee was largely attended by relatives and. friends on Tuesday afternoon. ;Rev. Mr. Wilson of the Whitechurch Presbyterian Church had charge of the service assisted by. Rev. H. Snell. The floral tributes 'were many and -beautiful and were carried by-R..J. Phillips, H. Youngblut, Ken- neth McDougal,. Chas. Scott, Win. Craig, Wm. Coates, Maitland Allen, Jas. Stalper, R. Stalker, Jack Stalk- er, and Frank Stalker. The pall- bearers were Dr. B. C. Hilland family of Listowel spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Stephenson. V BRUCEFIELD The regular monthly meeting of the W. A. of Brucefield United Church was hekb in the basement on Tuesday, July 4. The president Mrs. i. R. Scott was in the chair and Mrs.' Atkinson 'conducted the devotional part of the meeting. ''The meeting was not as well attended as usual, due, no doubt to busy tines on the farm. The first part of ene afternoon was oenupied with sewing, after which Group two too's charge.
