We often wonder why Jesus ever chose Judas to be one of the Twelve. We believe He must have seen some good in Him. Unlike Peter, Judas continued to follow afar off. He may be included in the great multi- tude of those who have had the op- portunity to follow closely in the foot- steps of the Master and who kept close to Him for a time and then drift- ed away. We may well learn a lesson from Judas. We cannot stand and throw stones at him for it may be we are in the same position ourselves. Judas went on and on. He betrayed His Master, saw his mistake went back to the chief priests and elders told them he rued his bargain and wanted them to take the money back saying "I have betrayed the innocent blood," but they refused to comprom- ise with him saying "What is that to us? see thou to that" Judas cast down the money and went out and hanged himself. So often we hear the question asked "What would have happened if Judas had made his way back to Jesus and had asked His will not oppose any movement in forgiveness? We cannot help but feel that he was one of the many who have gone down to• everlasting punishinent because he would not ask forgiveness for his, terrible sin., Then Jesus and. the eleven disciples the brook Cedron into of Olives. He knew that to try, to rescue it then would just make it restless and it would fall to its death. The second and third days it was still too much alive to be rescued. On the fourth day the vultures were fly- ing over head and the lamb was still The division of Jesus and His twelve disciples is really the way the world is separated to -day. The captors of Jesus represent the class of people who largely know nothing at all of His saving grace. There are many many in the world to -day who have never 'heard the name of Jesus. They, through our neglect, have had no opportunity of knowing of His love for them. They are those to whom such men as David Livingstone have given their lives to teach them the gospel. Then there are the eight disciples whom Jesus left outside the garden of Gethsemane. They have been closely M touch with those who love Jesus and His message, but they show little enthusiasm to speak of Him or to spread abroad His love. Many of them are church members, but that is all it means to thein. It gives them a standing. Some of them are officials in the church, but when questions come up of right or wrong they take the Easiest way out. They and may be cut off without injuring the vegetables. As Christ needed' to be alone with God so we must have solitary times alone with our Saviour and if we only realized it they are sweetest moments in our lives. Many important issues have been settled by great men and women as they have spent even hours on their knees wrestling with God to show them the way which is best for them to take. It is only when we come to that point that we fully realize just what Jesus means in' our lives. Each one of us belongs to one of these four divisions. We know where we belong and let us pray earnestly that God will lead' us to the one where we feel that we must be alone with Hint. Even Peter the one who boasted that he would never leave Him no matter who else did, , was sound asleep. It is true they 'were weary, but Jesus had, told then to watch. Are we watching or are we sleeping? At this crisis in the -history of our country many, many of us are sleeping. We are not caring what goes 'on as long as we are free from very much anxie- ty in regard to things. We have little or no time for the work of our Lord.
