The NEWS -RECORD has received
a copy of the Haley (Idaho.) Tiines
in which: is a very; interesting article
about judge George A. (McLeod wiio
recently celebrated his 90th birthday.
Judge McLeod is 'a brother of Mrs:
Janet Pearson, 'Clinton, and is a
native of dais district. The article, in
part, is as follows:
He is (believed tobe the oldest
judge in the intermountain west, and
he is certainly the oldest in' Idaho.
This is Probate Judge George A. Mc-
Leod, now 90 years of age, and still
hale and hearty.
This Idaho magistrate has had one
of the most varied and colorful Car-
eers in this part of the country;
He was born at Brucetfield, Huron
County, Ontario, Canada, November
11, 1856. Here - he received his ele-
mentary education : and later, was
graduated from a business college in
London, Ontario. Always ofa studious
nature, he is, ,to, , a great extent a
self-educated 'man; He is of Scottish
ancestry. kis, father was Roderica
McLeod and his another was Naney
(Henderson) McLeod.
The eldest of . eight children, he
early in life began.work iu the tread -
of egiaternce. He had one brother
a ,physician and surge n; one a Pres-
byterian .minister' and one a tailor.
The latter and C'ar1 0. Johnson con-
ducted a men's furnishing store in
Boise for many years..

visit a brother who was teaching
school here.
Elected Judge
In 1918 he was first elected pro-
bate judge and served two terms of
two years each. In 1938 he was again
elected to this office and has served
continuously over 'since. Although he
has served nearly 40 years in county
offees; two years asstate represent-
ative, and some minor offices, In
1907 he was elected a trustee of the
village of Hailey and in 1922 he was
elected clerk and ex -officio police
judge of the city of Halley. He also
served two years as justice of the
peace and four years as United States
commissioner, In 1937 he Was an at-
tache of .the Idaho legislature.
He is active in civic affairs and
Maternal societies; He is •.a member
of the Hailey .chamber of commerce;
an Odd Fellow* 64 -years; a Rebels h
48 years; an Eastern Star 42 years,
and a Granger 20 years.
