OBITUARY
MRS. ROBERT IL CHOWEN
Word has been received of the
death in London on Sunday, De-
cember 7, of Mrs. Robert. H.
Chowen, at the age of 78 years.
Funeral and interment took
place lin London Wednesday, De -
(amber 10.
Mrs. •Ohowen was .born in
Mitediedd anal early in life she
started her career as a beautiful
contralto soloist, being trained
by her father, the late William
Thorne, who was organist of the
■
Methodist Church. Folilotwing
her marriage she resided in
Clinton where for 14 years sne
was a valued soloist of Wesley
Church. After . singing in the
choir of Metropolitan United
Church, London, for 41 years,
she retired two years ago, al-
though she still retained her
lovely voice. She had been in
choral work for over 60 years
and was one of London's best
known choristers.
Surviving are her husband,

Mrs. W. L. Leith following an
illness of several months.
Mrs. Leith will be remember-
ed here as the former Miss Dixie
Fair, daughter df Mr. and Mrs;
James 'Fair, Calgary, Alta . , f or -
r er-residentss of town. While in
Calgary the decease was q;adte
'prominent in the Calgary Golf
end Country Club.
Mrs. Leith is survived by her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. James
Fair, Calgary; and twu sisters,
Mrs. A. D. McGregor, Truro,
N.S., and Mrs. J. al, R. Thom-
son, Calgary.
White Gift Party For
Saskatchewan Children
The Friendship Club of St.
Paul's Anglican Church 'held its
rogiular business meeting at the
home of Mrs. J. Hart an Wed-
nesday evening, November 26,
with the president, Miss M.
Hawkins, in charge.
This meeting was in the form
of a White Gift Party for the
childten of Christian Endeav-
our, Saskatchewan. The meet-
ing opened with the Club Pray-
er and the Lord% Prayer re-
peated in unison. After the re-
gular business of the evening
plans were made for the Christ-
m'as'party which was held at the
)Rectory on Wednesday, Dec-
ember 10.
A dainty alunch was served by
the hostess •assisted by Mrs.
Agnes Dade.

Hall on Wednesday evening, De-
cember 17, under the direction
of, the teachers, Donald Mc-
Auley, principal, Mrs. William
E. Parker, assistant and musi-

A splendid program is being

Mr. Mogridge is the son of the
late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Mog-
ridge of the 11th con. of Hullett.
He' has one brother, Edgar Mog-
ridge of Whittier, Cal.
Mrs. Mogridge has one sister,
Mrs. William Marsh of Goder-
i'ch; one 'brother, Thomas Man-
ning, London,
The celebrants have two dau-
ghters, Mrs. Bert Marsh, Kitch-
ener 'and Mrs. Gormerly Thomp-
son, Brampton, and four grand-
children.
,Mr. and Mrs. Mogridge are
valued members of Knox United
Church 'where Mr. Mogridge is
an elder. Mrs. Mogridge is a
member of the Woman's Miss-
ionary Society. Mr. Mogridge
was a member of the Hullett
Township Cohnoll for 11 years
and reeve for three years. He
was also a trustee of S.S. No. 9
for a number of years.
Mrs. Mogrddge is president of
the Women's Institute and, was
president of the 'local Red Cross
Society in' both wars.
A family dtnner was served nut table, a tea set, bridge lamp,

terian Church met on Tuesday
evening, December 2, • at . six
o'elook in the Sunday School
room.
Following a bountiful 'supper
under the supervision of Mrs.
Shaddeck and Mrs. Nott as hos-
tesses; the 'busdnesspart of the
meeting was conducted by .the
president, Mrs. Twitchell. The
secretary -treasurer read the
minutes of line last meeting and
the anneal financial report
showing a very gratifying bank
balance. Miss Shaw and (airs..

Mrs. Lane then took the chair
for the election of officers which
resulted in th'e re-election of the
present officers for 1948, name-
ly, president, Mrs. C. Twitchell;

Maxwell.
Mrs. Twitchen resumed her
chair amid a 'hearty clapping of
hands.
The Birthday Box was then
opened and the sum reali'ze'd a-
mazed all present and it was de-
cided to continue the Birthday
Box in the New Year. An enjoy-
able programme of Biblical and
Musical contests followed by the
singing of Ohni'stmas Carols
brought the meeting to a close.
A very warm feeling of love
and friendliness pervaded this
enjoyayle meeting which was an
incentive to all present to move
forwardto another year with
renewed strength.
IOOF NOTES
The Initiatory Degree was
conferred on two new members
at the regular meeting of Clin-
ton Lodge, I.O.O.F. No. 83, on
Tuesday evening. Refreshments
at the close brought a yery
pleasant evening to an enjoy-
able ending.

and Brucefield LO.O.F. Lodge
at a delightful At (tome held in
the Clinton 'Collegiate Institute
on Wednesday, November 26.
This was the first such gather-
ing held on such a 'large scale
in many years and was a most
enjoyable event,
Guests were received by H. F.
McPherson, Noble Grand and H.
W. Gourd, Rerording' secretary,
Euchre was enjoyed in the
gymn, the game being played
for a couple of hours. Later
deliloieus refreshments were ser-
ved, Ail looked very .gay in
their colourful hats which were
supplied by the committee. The
evening rounded out with danc-
ing in the auditorium. Both new
and old time dancing was en-
joyed, Mrs. W. E. Perdue and
James Murray played for the
(Satter while the record player
provided music . or the former.
