To our joy we -read in His Word that He :has given Flis angels "charge over us" and that "underneath are His everlasting arms". 'Rev. W. Clapham later had the pleasure. of receiving him into the membership of the church and he be- cause one of his most faithful work- ers. That is indeed, an example of how near God is to us and .of how Ile will so easily and freely come into o'tir lives if we will only let Him. We so often, estpeeially those whe are older, have such a dread of pass• ing into Eternity alone. Have we who have known Christ for even a short time any right to believe drat when God calls us Home He will leave us to go alone through the valley of the shadow of death? No, whatever is meant by passing into Eternity, we may rest *assured that Jesus Ohrist will go with us every step of the way. He will never leave us or for- sake us. Besides His Word we have that beautiful hymn "Be not discouraged, whate'er betide, God will take care of you." We all pass through experiences when no earthly power can help us, but we can 'always lay the responsi- bility of His promises on Hien and He, without fail, will fulfill their. One of these which should be daily in our minds is "God is our refuge .andstrength, a very present help in trouble," 'Many of es have dried that promise, have tested it, and have found it true. In recent months there are those who have worked hard to save money for• their old age. They have gone to the trouble of finding some place 'which they thought was secure from any loss. Then one .day they have found that all their earthly savingy'- had been taken. 'low our hearts ached for them! Then too, people have loaned money and sometime later have found that the guarantee was not worth the paper on which it was written. What a difference this all is to the promises of God which have been tried times without number and not a single instance has one been found to fail. 'When we put our savings in the Prank of Promises of God, what cone fort .and security we receive from our investment. God alone is responsible for the fulfilling of Itis promises. We have His assurance that they are bonafide. What a privilege it is for us to .have a pass. book, the Bible, which is God's inspired Word, and to be in close co-operation . with the Manager. Earthly bank managers are required by law to keep secret many things in connection with bank .af- fairs, but God has no secrets from us, All that is ietluired of us` ie to till me an on the cheque form the promise aur,. we want to help us and no cheque d. has over been returned "Not enffi- d cient beide". s ' 'Sometimes' God' leads • us into the d shadows: There are lessons which He n can only teach us ehere. Parents have P been' brought to Him through' the death of "a 'child; .others have, learned. to knew Him through a long sick- ness; mothers and fathers have giv- en their -lives to Hem through the worry of a son or d'au'ghter who has gone astray. People. must not only lead a good life to be assured of an etei•irdity with t , their Saviour, but they must take Christ as their leader and personal rt (,SaThviour, e ere is no use in our saying, ‘"I n ]hope t am 'one. of Christ's followers." d There is no ;need for us to hope-- Iwe have reason to know definitely, u 'not to hope. "Believe nn the Lord e Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved," No one knows whether we are real e Christians, but Christ and ourselves. ' When we give our hearts to God we are saved not fora lazy life, but we are saved ti ed for sernice. No matter tter in what •conditadar in life we find our- selves, we are ahle to do something to help on the worlt of the Lord. We have all learned some of 'the most 'Wonderful lessons an Cliristianity from those who heave lam for years on 'heft of pain or have been through very deep and tragic Sorrow. God is near jus when our clays are bright and He is close beside as when the shadows deepen. He wants to be our Guide and is simply waiting for us to ask Him. Will we not do it right now? "Never a trial that Ile is net there, Never a burden that He does not bear, Never a sorrow that- He does not share, Moment by moment I'in under His care. Moment by moment I'm kept in His loge, d y k 0 d . P SAYS: THERE ARE TWO GREAT RISI{S IN LIFE (1) Dying too soon and leaving dependents unprotected. (2) Living too long, with earning power gone.
