'Clinton 'branch of the Women's
Institute held its annual Grandmoth-
er's Day programme at the home of
Mrs. Robert Fairservice, Londesboro,
on Thursday afternoon, ;August 28.
The weather was ideal and the gath-
ering was :held on the spacious lawn.
Of the 56 ladies. present, 40 'were
grandmothers.
The guests were welcomed by the
president, MTs. 'M. Batkin and by the
hostess, Mrs- Fairs'ervice. The meet-
ing opened with singing of the In-
stitute Ode and the repeating of the
Lord's Prayer in unison. The min-
utes of the last meeting were read
and approved and the treasurer's
monthly statement given. During the
business period a 'report .was given
by the W. T. Park Comnittee stating
that the fence :at the Minton ,Cemet-
ery was recently painted with alum-
inum paint and the stone pillars there
had been pointed,. These ,projects
were sponsored ilry the local branch.

The programme committee then
took ,charge of the meeting. Prizes
were given as follows: grandmother
weighing heaviest, M•rs. Swinbank;
grandmother with most grandclaugh-
ters, 'Mrs. Dalrymple; most recent
grandmother, Mrs. Laidlaw; guess-
ing beans in a jar, Mrs, R. Pearson
and Mrs. Radford; clothesline race,
Mrs.:Stovin and Mrs, McGill.
A grandmothers' skit was given,
Mrs, Layton depicting the grand-
mother of 50 yews ago and Mrs. ;Ross
the modern grandmother. Mrs. Swin-
bank gave a. very interesting reading.
Mrs, Cuchnore happened to be -lucky
chair winner,
A Bing song was conducted while
supper was being prepared. The host -
testes served dainty refreslmnents.
