Clinton and Hensall Even Series;
Deckling Match at Hensall Friday
Clinton •Colts and Hensall are on.
even terms, with one game each, in
their Huron. -Perth Baseball League
intermediate north group final series.
Although Colts won the first game
here Monday evening by 9-4, they
lost the ,secondmatch ab Hensall last
evening by 8-4, making a third game
necessary.
CLINTON RCAF
ELIMINATED BY
HENSALL TEAM
Clinton RCAF's smart team, which
won the WOIAA title dart year, but
finished in fourth place in the Huron -
Perth Baseball _League north group
standing .this year, .hawed out of fur-
ther 'competition for the 1947 season
when Hensall put the skids under the
Airmen 7-6 at ILensall Friday evening
last.
The first match of the two -of
three series had been tied 4-4, and
Hensall had won the 'second .at the
School diamond 5-1, so that Hensall
won the semi-final round qualifying
to meet Clinton Colts.
Following Friday evening's match,
there was some talk of a protest on
the umpire's decision at second on
Don Joynt, who eventually scored the
winning run. The Airmen alleged that
Joynt had not touched second on his
way around the paths. However, a
protest was not filed, and Hensall)
met Clinton Colts.
The Airmen outhit Hensall more
than two to one, but Smith was 'wild
and walked no less than seven bat-
ters, whiek proved. his undoing. The
winners took advantage of the breaks
of the game in the last of the seventh
to win the game. With one out, Don
Joynt walked and was knocked home
by Jack Tudor's double to take the
game and the series. "Zeke" Philp
was the big noise for the Airmen,
with two three-haggens, the first
coming in the third and the second
in the fifth, scoring three ahead of
hi nand tying up the game. Corbett
of Hensall had a Ironer in the first
frame 'with none aboard.

COLTS CAPTURE
RUBBER GAME
FROM STAFFA 14-9
Hensall won the toss of the coin
for the venue of the third game and
chose the Iiensel'1 diamond. The in, -
patent match wiN commence sharp
at 5 p.in. Friday, the winner to meet
St. Marys, who ousted Lucan in two
games :out of three for the south
group title, for the Ieagve champion,
ship and the right to proceed in the
OBA, Intermediate "C" playtimes
against the WOAA winner.
Hensall 8—Clinton 4
Pitcher Ivan Kiefer and his Hensall
craw were just too good for the ,Colts
last night, White the clever Ivan
was setting the Colts dun with seven
scattered safeties, his mates were
knocking the ball around the diamond
and keeping the 'Clinton Infield in 'hot
water. The Colts obliged .with no
less than 11 errors, somewhat of a
record for this season, as well as
three passed balls, and some pretty
dumb base -running, coaching, and it
was snore good hide than good man-
agement that the Hensall count didn't
run into double, figures,
Although 12 runs were scored by
both. team's, only four of them were
earned—{two by each outfit. .
Clinton team missed the steadying
influence and batting prowess of
seconcl-sacker• Bert White, who was
on the sidelines with a sprained left
wrist sustained' in the first game.

team galloping through with a 9-4
victory over the, visitors, in the first
of the best two -in -three series for
the north group title of .the Huron -

Bob Cair•,iek redeeaned himself rfol'-
lowing his disastrous game at Staffa
Thursday evening last and hurled a
good game for Colts, backed by ex-
cellent support. Jack Tudor, with a
single and triple, was the only play-
er to ,got more than one hit off his
slants. Don Joynt pitched steady
ball for the losers but the Clinton
powerhouse 'again proved a big ob.•
staele,
The evergreen Bert White, Colt
second baseman, again was the star of
the game, with two singles and a
mighty homer to deep right in the
third with no one aboard' in five times
up, as well as four runs.
Other hitters were Fred MacDonald
with a :single and a triple, Bob Carr-
ick with two singles and Hugh Haw-
kins with a single and triple. Boussey
and Woodcock ,were the only Clinton
batters not to hit safely.

Clinton took the rubber game from
Staffa in the Huron -Perth Baseball

safe :hits and won 14-9, putting Staffa
into the discard for this year, but

stagand amassed a total of ten
hits, eight off Fred MacDonald in
six innings, and two off "Blondy"
Cook in two frames.
Colts showed a great reversal of
form from their 9-8 loss Showing
the .previous evening and were chalked
up with only one error. They played
smarter ball and seemed to be more
"ion their toes". There was a good
attendance of Clinton fans, and most
of the players and officials travelled
by bus through the courtesy of Mur-
phey Bros. Garage.
After the game, Staffa players and
officials gathered round and eon
gratullated the Colts and wished them
well in their title quest. The 'Staffa
club suffered a great loss earlier in
:the season when their great catcher,
"Doe" Kerslake, fractured a leg slid-
ing into second and were handicapped.
