Opening Baseball Match

from home next week—at Mitchell
. , IVlonday. June 2, and at Strafe, on
Thursday, June 5. -
The gala opening 'will take place,
however, on Monday, June 9, at 4
p.m., with Clinton RCAF as guests.
Phe match will be part of the Legion
Celebration here on the Zing's Birth-
day.
Here's what the Colts are going to
present the fans (just as soon as
the rain stops) :
(1) Brand new uniforms provided
by local business hooses.—attractive
•shades of green with red stripes; the
informs have arrived, and the caps
and sox are expected iannnediately;
(2) The evergreen Bob Carsick,
southpaw twirler extraordinary, last
year with Goderich from whom he
got his release Monday night;
(3> A new catcher --Ray J. Boussey
of ,Seaforth, superb defence star of
Seaforth Beavers, conquerors of Clio -
ton Colts in the OII'A Intermediate
"B" series a couple of months ago;
(4) An all-round snappy ball club
with a new manager —• Clarence
Livermore and a nett' ,conch —
Ted 'Sanderson.
So there you are!
13 Signed to Date
The oldsters and youngsters have
been doing a bit of practising lately
despite the 'handieap of weather.
The following 13 players have
signed certificates to date:
Fred MacDonald, Clarence Neflans,
Begat White, Doug Bartlifa, Art Wood-
cock, Laude Oelquhovn, Mud"
S'choenhals, ICen Miller, Jack Butler,
Jr., Leh Johnson W. J. "Blondy"
Cook, Bob Draper and Ray J. Bans-
sey.
Pitching talent available includes
Fred MacDonald, Bob Carrick, Bob
Draper, "B'lendy," Cook, Cord: Stock
and Len Jaohnson, Catdhers are
C'ognhoun and Boussey. For the
present, at least, Fred 14LacDonald
likely will play first when he isn't
pitching. Doug Bartiff and Bert
White 'will swap second for ,shortstop.
Art Woodcock, formerly of Pipe -
stone, Man., ,and with the Perth
Regiment overseas, will play third.
The lest are in the hat, depending
a lot on their batting "ball -hawking"
ability.

RACES AT NEW HAMBURG
Trotting races seem to have plenty
of followers in this neck of the
woods. A number of local devotees
of this sport drove to New Hamburg
on Saturday to attend the races,

Londesboro Defeats
Wingham Indians 5-4

Londesboro B -A softball team
journeyed to W1ngham Sat., May
24, to play Winnghain Indians, Lon-
desboro winning by 5-4. It was the
first -game of the season for either
team, The grounds were in fair
i' n
eand tag .
Lonclesboro opened the scoring in
the first 'inning when Leiper but saf-
ely to score on a passed ball. Wing -
ham evened it up On their half, Bell
crossing the plate. The Lonesboro
team came back in the third to bake
the lead ones more. Saundiei'cock
scoring to make it 2-1. Then, in
the fourth, Londesboro came up with
two, more rims by Tarns and Lee to
melte A 4-1. In the eighth, Londes-
boro added another.
In the last half of the ninth, Atch-
ison, the first man nip, knocked a
homer off Tarns. Higgins bit safely,
Groves flied ,out and Niergarbh sing-
led to put runners on first and 'sec-
ond. Gardiner singled, scoring both,
but he was eaiwght between second
and third. McLeod fanned to retire
the side,
It was a pitcher's battle all the
way, Higgins, for Wingham, striking
out ten, and Tanis for Londesboro,
cooking 12 strikeouts.

eter tomorrow evening in a scheduled
match. Players are requested to be
at the Royal Bank corner. at 6.15 pm.
There were some doubts that Ex.
eter would field a team but they have
come through gallantly with Bill
Cochrane as the leading impressario.
The Exeter lads are malting no pre-
dictions, but expect to put up a tidy
battle with any of the other five
teams in the group,

p.m. Wednesday next, June 4, . with
Clinton R+uc'hrwears as hosts. The
northerners are strong with 'about

ton in the group finals Iast year,
L.ONDESBO'Ro'S VICTORY
Londesboro B -A's 5-4 victory over
Wingham in an exhibition match at
Wingham Saturday establishes the
Taras-pitched team as a worthy con-
tender for WOIA3 intermediate "B”
honours' this year. Londesboro did a
mighty good jab Last year, it is re-
called', and with the addition on the
mound of Walter Texas, last year
with ,Goderich, should go a long way.

The RCIAII' has announced that it
requires a number of enthusiastic
young men, •ek,lled an unskilled, to
complete a nueletfs of highly technic-
al and qualified parsons ready for
rapid expansasrs should the necessity
arise.
All interested in Clinton and dis-
trict are requested to contact the Re-
cruiting Officer at RCAF Station,
Clinton.
The RCAF paints • ont that in no
other vocation today can conscient-
ious young' men learn a trade, earn 0
livelihood, and at the same time build
a pension os .unity on which to re
tire. Every ,airman's career in the
peacetime Air Force is focussed on
his becoming, a 7rig,°hl5y skilled technic-
ian in whatever trade he chooses to
study. A few other of the many ad-
vantages of a service career include
