"Sulphur and Molasses"
• • •
Once again it is spring — with no restrictions in
sight to mar your summer driving pleasure.
Of course you'll soon be giving your car the "sulphur
and molasses treatment" — getting rid of winter -worn lubricants
and replacing them with fresh. clean summer grades; flushing
out the cooling system and rust -protecting it for the months ahead.
Getting the last few miles out of tires and battery
can turn out to be expensive — with new ones now available
it isn't worth the gamble.
We have the help, the experience and the equipment
to serye you quickly and efficiently — and we'd like to have
your business.

Towards a, Better
Understanding
(Continued from Page One)
that he has a drawling rate of $125
per month foam which he pays rent
dight, heat, clothes, insurance, food
occasional bills at the druggists. All
these have to be met before he can
say that the has anything at all for
the little extras in life such as hair-
cuts, drycleaning, the occasional
smoke, and visit to the cinema all of
'which you will agree are part and
parcel of our social system.
From a recent atuavey which was
made of the married personnel on
RCAF tStbation Clinton, the following
conditions ,were revealed and !these
conditions were culled from actual
figures •received. It costs a Corporal
or below an average for bare living
cost of between $1.20-$155 per month
to live; for a Senior N. C. O. up! to
Warrant'Off!icer 1st Class between
$129-$204 oto live. From figures we
have it was revealed that we have
32 married men with less than $15
after paying the essential items in
the family budget as catalogued
above, 14 !with less than $25 balance,
and 9"are going in the red each month,
You may ask how cen they go in the
red. Well may F tell you that no
far they have had, to sell their bonds,
use up ;their gratuities which were
given them by a grateful government
for their war cervices to help them
get re-established. The big question
looms up for these fellows:— "What
ate they, going to de, when their little
reserve is used up and the cost of
living remains at the present high
level' er perhaps goes up more which
is quite probable"? '
Many things go to make this con-
dition of things all of which 'will be
di's'cussed in detail in later letters but
,sufficient 20 say at the moment our
men are worried at conditions as rbhey
are, and' if we hope to retain them
services both to train and be trained
in this most vital part of our defence
set up, 'then first of 'all we asnii$ laalvg,,
men' who are free from financial
worries caused by unbalanced family
budgets. Also, and it is said in all
fairness and kindness that the aver-
age John Citizen must remember that
the money he provides and we also
provide because we pay income tax
as 'well although in the service, is not
squandered but pot to the very best
possible use. In a oivnlinn firm it is
generally the :rule to pay a man what
he is worth. Cannot that rule be put
into practice in the seryices,

Lowe Brothers HIGH STANDARD
HOUSE PAINT covers solidly more
square feet of surface per gallon,
wears longer and actually costs less
to use than cheap paints. And here
is why! Recognized laboratory tests
show that many "cheap" paints
contain as much as 63% of water
and other evaporating liquids—and
only 37% of protectivefilm-forming
'solids. But Lowe Brothers HIGH
STANDARD HOUSE PAINT con-
tains 90% of surface protecting,
film -forming solids. That's why it
costs less to use—why it spreads
evenly ara saves time and money.
