Seaforth Beavers Defeated
In URA Playoffsby Sarnia
,Seaforth Beavers were eliminated
64 (from the OHA Intermediate "B"
race at Seaforth, Saturday night by
a tough Sarnia Sailors' club. The
series was a two -game goals-to-eount
affair and Sarnia entered Saturday's
game with a one -goal lead by virtue
of a close 5-4 decision over Seaforth
at Petrolia Thursday might.
The game was a dbg-eat-dog af-
fair all the way, both teams fighting
for goals, but the "Fighting Tars"
had an edge most of the game. Kirk-
land, Dodds and Butler were the Sar-
nia splsrkplugs. Kirkland and But-
ler each seared twice and Jones and
ll.oskie 'rounded it off. Cassidy and
Carnegie divided the Seaforth Scor-
ing honors, each bulging the twine
twice. Cassidy also got two assists,
Carnegie one and Me1iaddin the other
Seaforth's goalie, Deleon, got a
tough break in the middle of the se-
eond, period when, after stopping a
shot from James, the puck bounced
underneath him and slowly rolled ac-
ross the goal line and came to rest
barely on the pay-off side of the all-
important little red line.
The game was also a milestone in
;the hockey career, .of "Red" Palmer,
speedy Seaforth right winger. He
had his . first fight; Palmer, who,
off the ice is a meek, quiet, softspok-
en led standingfeet
about 5 4 inches
UAL, got into a peach of a fight with
011ie Haddon of Sarnia over a small
matter of a punch in the ribs. In
seconds Redden and Palmer were on

the iee silugging,away. Referee Me-
Quzade, with the assistance of several
players, separated the gladiators,
but Palmer, not noticing the feet that
Haddon .was out of circulation, kept
slugging away at .Referee McQuade:
That august personage replied in
kind, and players once again had to
sort out battlers. When the batter-
ed bruised.but victorious McQuade
cooled off somewhat he said match
misconduct penalty, and some other
words, and law and order again re.
igned.
Five; minutes later Referee Mc-
Quade 'had
cQuade'had to take I)on Goodrow and
Jim Butler, both very big men, in
hand. Not satisfied with methodic-
ally battering each other in the midd-
lie of the ice, Goodrow and Butler
commenced fisticuffs again on the
Tway to the sin bin.
When Allen of Sarnia dumped
Noma Carnegie into the boards after
(tripping and hitting him.. he could
!have picked a better place, because
he was right in front of a group of
particularly enthusiastic Seaforth
flans, and it is truly amazing the
nuniber"'of blows three or four sets
of knuckles can delver in a few se-
conds. Allen was also conviently
close to•the penalty box so he didn't
have far to stagger.
played to a
was The game, whichY
capacity crowd of over 1,000 and on
ice • little better than slush, would
have been considerably better on a
larger rink and hard iee.

SPEAKING GE SOFTBALL—.
While; snow and iee still 'covered
the ground and a blizzardwas in the
making, Clinton softball enthusiasts
assembled in the Town Coin/oil Cham-.
ter Friday everting last and dismissed
aliens for ;the coming season. It is
expecte$ that the local team will be
in a W OAA group consisting of
Goderich, Wingham, Seaforth ami
Clinton, vhtieh should be really some-
thing. It ;was decided to request the
Board Pof Park Management to make
provision for a separate softball
diamond in Community Park, and a
deputation was appointed to inter-
view the Board to this end.
SEAFORTH BEAVERS OUT
Clintonians who saw the Bernie-
Seaforth hockey match at Seaforth
Saturday evening when the Beavers
were eliminated by the Sailors from
further GHAT Intermediate "B" com-
petition, were of the opinion that the
better team won, but they also ,felt
that Clinton Colts might have made
a better showing than Seaforth, as
the Colts and Sailors play the same
style of hockey. However, that is a
question that never will be settled.
Sarnia captured the round 11-8, win-
ning the first at Petrolia 5-4 and the
second at ;Seaforth 6-4.

GODERICH PROTESTS
Defeated by Bolton in the 0141H A
Juvenile "B" semi-finals, Goderieh
Lions have protested on the grounds
that the Bolton rink was not prop-
erly marked' off in accordance with
Rule 8, Part A, which states that
face-off spots must be 15 feet from
the ends of rinks. After defeating
Bolton at Goderich 8-4, the Goderich
youngsters took a 20-4 shellacking
at Bolton in the return game, and lost
the round 24-12. One reason given
was that three of Bolton's best play-
ers at hone did not even appear in
the Goderich fixture.

PORTS OUST GODERICH
Goderich Liens, WOAA Midget
champions, passed out of the OMAHA
Midget "B" sent; final playdowns at

were defeated by Port Colborne 5-4
and lost the round 16-6. Johnny
Donaldson, Goderich goalie, received
a bad cut .on his face in the first
period, requiring several stitches.
Lindsay defeated Pout Colborne in
the first game of the finals 4-3 at
Lindsay Saturday night.
SEAFORTf MADE IT CLOSE
Searforbh Beavers very nearly won
;the first game of ;their 0111A. Inter-
mediate 'tB" series with Sarnia Sail-
ors. In the first game at Petrolia
Thursday evening last, Seaforth was
loading 4-3 with only four minutes to
go, but Sarnia counted two fast ones,
the last with only a :minute left, to
wan 5-4 and take a one -goal lead to
Seaforth for the return match Sat-
urday.
