Mrs, Betty Dikken, 'Toronto, came
last weekend to visit her parents,
Ma. and Mrs. Leslie ,Stirling,
Keith Gemeznbard,who is employed
with the Lavas Contracting Gib„ Clin-
ton, has leen storm -stayed at his
home in .Bayfield. He attempted
to get to 'Mahon on. Wednesday but
only got as far as Brucefield.
Purchase Cottage
The Misses Krncke, Dearborn,
dMiek., have purchased the Late A.E.
Bram cottage on lVia,in St. This
property has been in the possession
of members of the Erwin family .for
100 years,
Village Without Milk
The village has ,been without milk
since Saturday due to the storm con-
ditions. The milkman usually coarses
from Goderich three times a week,
but so far this week has not been
able to .make kis trip.
Toboggan Party
The Girls' Auxiliary of Trinity
Church held a toboganning party on
Tuesday evening. Afterwards they
went to the Orange Hall where Mrs.
E. Heard, 'Mrs. R. Larson and Mrs.
B. Sturgeon had a lunch really for
the group.
Cecil Howard Died
Mrs. William Howard was called to
Detroit last week owing to the ser-
ious illness of her ' son, Cecil; who
was taken to hospital 'after he ce -
lapsed at work. Owing to the snow-
blocked roads she was unable -to leave
until Saturday. • The youngman suc-
cumbed to a heart attack on -Monday.
The sympathy orf .the community„ is
expressed to the bereaved family.

Lions Club had proposed to hold in
the Town Hall, March 17,, has been
postponed, as the date•confli eted with
arrangements made by LOL No. 24. ,

Hodge Night of the Goderieh ,Lions
Club in the County Town last Friday;
Delayed by Storm
Rev. L. Morgan and family are
visiting in Watford until roads open
up. They left Brantford on Monday
on their .way to Bayfield and Teach -
ed Elginfield. There they found they
oouild go no further in this direction
but were able to make Watford where
they have relatives living. Their
furniture is somewhere- en route.
Mrs, R. H. Middleton and baby,
Hensall, are visiting the former's
mother, Mrs, N. W. Woods, this week.
Mrs. Josephine Robinson, London,
was the guest of Mr. and Mrs,' Grant
Turner ower the weekend. •

Fair Crowd at Church
There was a fair attendance at
Brucefield United Church services
Sunday Morning and evening. Rev.
E. R. Steinway preached at both
services.
Road to Clinton Open
The big rotary plow got to Bruce -
field frown Clinton at noon Wednes-
day, opening op traffic north. It
proceeded south, but at the thne of
writing, Highway 4 had not yetbeen
opened up as far as Exeter. Prev-
iously, the road had been open, but
only for emergency traffic, from Ex-
eter to London.
Sympathy Extender
Residents of this community will
regretto Iearnof a serious accident
which befel Allan Fraser, Exeter, an
employee at Centralia airport,• who
was injured while on his way to
work Monday morning, when struck
by a car in the storm, together with
another workman. He is now a pa-
tient in a London hospital. His wife
formerly was ,Miss Vera Decker, well
known in church aetivities in this)
district,
Miss Marion Patterson, who is
employed in 'London, is ill at her
home here.
Meetings Postponed
Brueefield YPU meeting was not
held Monday en account of unfavor-
able weather conditions. The WA
meeting was postponed from Tuesday
for the same reason and will be held
at a later date.
Andrew Davidson is suffering
from chicken pox, and several in the
vicinity are recovering from mumps.
AUBURN
Dies in Winnipeg; Man.
Vincent Kina'han, 64, a native e<
St. Augustine, where he grew n ,
died recently in Winnipe, i Man. He
went to Western Canada 'at the age
of 22 years, and had resided there
ever since. •Surviving• are his wife
and three daughters; a sister, Mrs.
William Blake, Brussels; three
brothers, Gus, West Wawanosh;
Tom, 'Saskatoon; and Joseph, Blucher,
Sask. Two brothers predeceased hien.

Valentine Concert

was decided to donate $10 to the
Canadian Aid to China Fund, The
program, under Convener Johnnie
Seers, consisted of recitation, Mar-
gie Wright; reading, Bobby Yung-
blut; instrumental, Marion Taylor
recitation, Betty Steady; jokes, Ted
Turner; recitation, Gladys McClin-
chey riddlesanda nalcl King; recita-
•bion, Billy Dodd;' musical numbere on
Itonettes, Johnnie Seers and Lloyd
MoGlinahey. Valentine contest con-
dueted by Ted Turner was won by
Grant Raithby, first; A1Ian Craig,
second; Margaret Nevins, third;
Mail carriers then delivered Valen-
tines- to the pupils. Lunch was served
by grades 'three and four.
Women's Institute
Mrs, James Woods presided for the
monthly meeting of the Women's In-
stitute held in tale Foresters Hall on
Tuesday. The meeting opened' with
the singing of the "Ode" with Mrs.
R. J. Phillips at .the piano, followed
by the Lord's Prayer in unison. It
was decided to donate. $25 to the Aid
to China Fund. The following pro.
gram was enjoyed. A •solo was rend-
ered by Mas, William Roberton; Mrs.
Lawson gave a short talk onthe
history of the Heedless. Fund. Mrs.
Roy Finnigan contributed a humor-
ous reading; Mr's. Gordon McCiinahey
gave an interesting and profitable
talk on Agriculture. Mrs. Wesley
Bradnock favored with a solo, and
Mss. Charles M. Straughan gave a
reading; Miss Elm -Match conducted
a contest. The roll call was respond-
ed to by "Your: Favorite Task in and
Around the Honied' Tickets were solei
on a gift donated. by Mrs. And Rose,
Mrs. William Roberton was the hold-
er of the lucky ticket. The meeting
elosed with the National Anthem.
Refreshments were served by Mrs.
William J. Craig, Mrs. Edgar Law-
son and Mrs. James Craig.

Passes in Oshawa
Following arrival of the noon train
at •Seaforth on Monday, interment
was to take place in 1Vfaitlandbank
Cemetery there of the remains of
Mrs. Edward' Daley, well known in
the Kippen district, who died Friday,
Feb. 28, in Oshawa, in her 72nd
year. She formerly was Grace Cud -
snore.
Surviving, 'besides her husband, are
three daughters, Mrs. Frank 'Thomp-
son, Toronto; Mrs. Eldon Southwell,
Oshawa, :and Ethel 'C'udmore, Osh-
awa; three sisters, Mrs. Thomas

Beavers
Back on the seas again, the growing Canadian
Pacific Beaver fleet of fast cargo ships carried
200,000 tons of foodstuffs and other Canadian pro-
ducts to Britain during the Montreal shipping

The monthly Chamber of Commerce
dinner meeting was held in the ban-
quet hall ,of the New Commercial
Iiotol,
Hensall, Tuesday evening,
Feb. 25. A. delicious chicken dinner
was served with all the trimmings.
C. L. Jinks introduced the guest
speaker of the evening. Norman
Moore, president of the Board of
Trade, Brantford, and connected. with
Cockshutt Plow.
Mr. 'Moore for his subject spoke ors
"Canada, a young nation," He was
a most fluent and ,able speaker and
delighted the gathering. • He out-
lined the history of Canada, and stat•
ed that we should broaden out, the t
we were living too close to ourselves.
He told of the achievements- of. the
Chamber of Commerce at Brantford,
He also congratulated the local
Chamber of Commerce on the flood
lights of the community park, and
their progressive • work.
W. R. Davidson moved thanks to
the speaker, and R. E. Shaddicls for
the delicious supper served.

Truck. --Car Crash
Two trucks and a ear figured in
an accident on Highway No. 4, two
and a half reales south of Hensall
Satorclay afternoon, with damage re -
silting .to the car and one of the
trucks. While.' prooeediing towards
Hensall, Frank Forrest, driver of the
truck owned by George Bennett, who
operates the Hensall Dairy, was ;tore -
ed to awing into the ditch to avoid
hitting another truck stucic in a snow
drift. As he swung out, a car carry-
ing two air force personnel smashed.
into :the rear of the truck. Slight
damage was done to the truck, but
the car %was badly damaged.

World Day .of. Prayer
The Women's World Day of Prayer
here was a great success, with a good
crowd in attendance. It was held in
St. John's. Asnglioan Church with
joint direction with Varna United
Church. Mrs. M. Reid, Mrs, John
Beatty and Mrs, Lee McConnell, were
in charge, and Mrs. Sherlock Keys'
gave an excellent paper on "Prayer."

Miss Phyllis Wilding spent the
weekend at her home in Palmerston.
Dance Enjoyed
The dance staged Friday night by
the Community. Club in the School,
was fairly well attended. ' Cards were
played before luneb. Music was
supplied by, G. Westlake, violin, and
Mrs, G. Greenslade, ,piano. Silver
collection Was taken. Lunch was
served.

EBENEZER
Ebenezer WA Meets
The February meeting of the WA
f Ebenezer United Church was held
at the home of Mrs, Arthur Hebden.
With the president in charge, the
meeting opened with a hymn, which
was followed by the Lord's Prayer
in unison.
The ,Roll Call was answered by a
Vailentine quotation or verse after
which the minutes were read and
adopted. During the business session
of the meeting it was decided to hold
a St, Patrick's social in the church
with the following names on the pro-
gramme committee. Mrs, Bert Lobb,
Mrs. C. Tebbutt Mrs. I, Merrill and
Miss Josephine Muir.
A vote of thanks was tended to
Mrs. Hebden and Miss Muir for a
curtain for the Sunday ,School.
The Scripture lesson was read by
Mrs, H. Lobb followed by prayer by
Miss Josephine Muir. Readings 'fivers
given by M'rs. F. Jones, Mrs. C. Teb-
butt and Mrs. Bert Lopb. A solo
was sung by Mrs. F Jones after which
Mrs, Hebden gave a reading. A "New
Testament" contest prepared by Mrs.
Merrill was used..
The meeting closed with a hymn.
and the Benediction. Lunch was
served by the hostess.
WALTON
Trampled by horse
Trampled under the feet of a horse
while playing in the barn, four -year -
alai Marlene Williamson was fortun-
ate to escape death Wednesday night
last. The child -was playing with a
dog behind the horse ,stalls while her
father was doing the evening; barn
chores. She is believed to have trip-
ped over the dog and :fallen under.
the Horse's hooves. Her injuries were
at first thought to be serious, but
after she had been rushed to Scott
Memorial Hospital, Seaforth, the in-
juries were found ,to be relatively
superficial: She is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. James' Williamson, con-
cession 17, Grey Township. ,

Ladies' Club Meets
Summerhill Lanes' Club gathered
at the home of the president, Mrs.
Goldwn Smith, on February 10. The
meeting was opened by singing a
hymn, followed' by the Lord's Prayer.
The minutes of the previous meeting
were read and approved. There were
17 members and three visitors pres-
ent. The motion was made by Ms's,
P. Gibbings and seconded by Mrs. C.
Farquhar that our club do sewing for
,the Hospital. It was moved by Mrs,
IT, Mason and seconded by Alas. Cor-
nish that we donate $5 to the Aid to
China Fend. As a means of raising
money the ladies planned a card
party to be held in the Summerhill
School,, February 28, Quit patches
were sewn during the aftet'noou.
After the business session, two
cantosts were held. The first contest
conducted by Mrs. P Gibb nge, was
won by Mrs. C. Farquhar, and the
second, conducted by Ml's. C Merrill
was won by Mrs,' W. Jenk',ns, Lunch
was served at the close.
The next meeting will be held at
the home of Mrs. Robert Smith on
March 12. The ladies responsible for
the +programme at this meeting will
be Mrs. F. Vodclen, UT's. W. Vo. lrlen.

the hostesses will be Mrs B1cker,

The many friends of Mr. and Mrs.
Geary Cools, Toronto, will be sorry

in the death of their ten -year-old
daughter, Susan. Ann, who died in
Toronto. Saturday, March 1. The
funeral took place in Tel:onto on
Tuesday, March 4. The bereaved
