The 'winner will meet Clinton Colts
in a series likely to be best -three -
in -five for the group title.
The Airmen staged a tidy battle,
Wednesday, especially in the second
period, when they matched stride for
stride and goal for goal with the
Colts, Their etyle of hockey is en-
tirely different than the 'Colts. Laf-
ferty was going great guns, and nick-
ed off :four of his team's five goals,
Gordie Evans getting the other one.
The regular centre, Clouthier, was
Missing from the line-up' on account
of tonsilitis.
The Colts anna.esed .a total of 23
points, all fairly evenly. divided, and
nine going ,to each of the two for-
ward lines. Westbrooke, Harry Mc -
Ewan and Bob Draper, each had four
points; Frank McEwan and Doug
Bartliff each had three; Jack Duck-
worth had two.; and Tien Pickett,
"Bud" Schoenhals and Ken Colqu-
Noun, one each.

Clinton Lions Juveniles qualified
for the WOAA. group final with God-
erich by defeating Exeter Lions
Juveniles 3-2 at Clinton Lions Arena
as past of a doubleheader Tuesday
evening, thus winning the round 10-7.
The visitors tied up the round in
the first period by counting twice,
but Clinton carne to life in the second
with two in reply, and won the match
in •the last part of the third stanza
with the third goal.
Dr. George S. Elliott coached the
local tearer from the bench.

Overtime Win Over Stratford
Clinton Colts chalked up a sen.
rational 8-7 overtime victory over
the previously unbeaten Stratford
Legion "A" 'team in Clinton Lions
Arena 'Mondayevening, and won
themselves many friends.
The Stratford team plays back here
again on Monday evening, February
24, in the final ;group game,
Stratford led.at the end of the first
Period 3-1, and the score was tied
4-4 at the end of the second. Mid-
way through the third stanza, the
visitors bad forged ahead by 7-4,
but the Celts came through with
three counter's' o teas before U fo a full time and
tied the a •
me at
g 7-7.
In the overtime, with about two
minutes played, the newlywed. Clar-
ence Neilans, tallied the clincher, Ken
Pickett .and Karry' MoElwan getting
assists. From then on, the Colts
hung on for dear life and managed
to stave off a determined Stratford
rally.
It was a nice game to win and a
tough one to lose, but it had the
effect of vaulting the Colts into first
place in the "B" section of the 01 -IA
Intermediate group over Seaforth
Beavers, who lost to Stratford Legion
at Tavistock, Tuesday evening by 8-2.
Fastest of Season
The match was the fastest played
here to date this year, with both
teams going at top speed throughout.
The Colts checked both ways like
fiends and kept the smart Stratford
forwards in hand.
Ken Pickett was top point scorer
for the locals- with two goals and
twoassists, while .Doug Bartliff
counted two goals and one assist,
Westbrooke two goals, and Duck-
worth and Neilans one 'each.
Burdette and Larry Gatschene were
the big noises kor the visitors, the
former with three goals and the lat••
ter with two goals. Hums, Ducharme
and Macey were not on hand.
The Stratford lads make their last
appearance of the season on local ice
on Monday night 'next ,against the
Colts.

Honor Clarence Neilans
A feature of Monday evening's
hockey match between Stratford
Legion and Clinton Colts was the
reading of an address and presenta-
tion.of a beautiful end table to Clar-
ence Neilans, defence player, who
was married a few days previously
to Miss Ruth Sharpe.
The ceremony took place on the ice
just prior to the start of the third
period. President Caryl W. Draper
read the following address over the
loudspeaker system, and Manager
Bert Glidden remade the presentation:
"In recognition of your recent Mar-
riage, the officers and members of
Clinton Colts Intermediate Hockey
Olub wish to take this opportunity
of publicly congratulating you and
your bride. May we offer our sincere
good wishes for a long • and happy
married life together.
"As a token of the high esteem in
which we hold you and Ruth, may we
ask you to accept this gift in behalf
of the `boys'. May it long be a
reminder of many hard games and
'pleasant times together, on and off
the ice."

Wearwell Girls' League
In the Wearwell Girls' Bowling
League, which bowls every Thursday,
Mrusgrettes last week defeated Mool-
ettes by 2,256--2,144 and five point's

ON ROUND 10-6
Going into the game 'with a one•
goal lead secured in the first`mateh
of the playoffs at Exeter, Clinton
Lions Midgets increased the margin
on the semi-final WOAA group round
to four by defeating Exeter Lions
Midgets 4-1 at Clinton Lions Arena
Tuesday evening as the first part of
a doubleheader. Round score of 10-6
qualified the locals for the final
sudden -death match at Gdderich
Thursday evening.
Clinton scored 'first and skated off
the ice at the end of the first period
leading on the game 3-1. There was
no scoring in the second, and Clinton
tallied the only counter in the third.
Ken Colquhoun handled the team
:from the bench. The game was clean
and fast, Al feature was the third -
period goal by Ron Canter who was
on the ice for only a short period.

Clinton Collegiate Institute boys'
basketball team suffered its first
defeat of the season at the hands of
Mitchell High School lads at the
Perth town Wednesday last. The final
store was 18-15.
