Players and management of Clin- ton Colts, this town's entry in the OB1A Intermediate "B" series, are praying for cold weather and hard ice for Friday evening's set-to with Seaforth Beavers right here in Clin- tonto 'ons a. In As n The reason is that the Seaforth lads—dreg pardon, thee boys represent- ing Seaforth—gave the Colts a 7-3 licking on soft, gooey ice at Sea- forth Tuesday evening, but the locals feel they can turn the tide on a harder .surface. Time will tell, but your observer is confident of the result, The Colts really pranced around the ice during the first ten minutes of play, and had tallied two picture . goals before the halfway mark, one by "Timmer" McFwan from Danny .Colquhoun, and the other by Doug Eartliff from Ken Pickett. But then things commenced to happen. and the busy Beavers banged in six straight without reply, foam in the first period and two..in the second. Each team tallied once in the third stanza. A. shifty chap by the name of Carnegie, said to hail from Stratford, and also said to be minus a playing certificate, was one of the main cogs in the Seaforth win, while our own boys, "Izzy" Powell and Frank Ell- wood, also had quite a bit to do with Beavers' success. Their defence was pretty hard to heat at times, and Dolson looked pretty- good in the nets, especially in the final period when he was pushed hard. On the other hand, after a fort- night's ]ay -off, it did npt seem to be in the cards for the Colts to shine. But even at that, the score hardly represented the play, although this writer certainly will: admit that the better team on the night's ,play took the decision. Offensively, the Colts looked good at time, with a rush and a zip that did them credit, but de- fensively, they were caught cold on several occasions. Good defensive play wins many a hockey match. Actually, Seaforth scoredonly six goals, the fifth one going into the not' off Stade's stick when Bartliff was attempting to clear. That was just a bit of tough luck, The officiating was first class. Gordon "Rooster" Muir, •Seaforth hometowner, dog' a nice joband in' keeping things well in hand. He is billed for the Friday match here. The only sera)) was in the closing minutes of the game when "Bud" Schoenhals and Labute tangled, both going of for five minutes.
