Christmas and New Year's Ser-,
vices were well attended at Bruce-
field United Church. The choir, under
the direction of Mrs. • J. Murdoch,
rendered special music, and Rev. E.
R. Stanway preached most approp-
riate and inspiring sermons on these
occasions, -
Recovered from Illness
We are glad to report that Hugh
Aikenhead is fully recovered from
his recent illness when he spent •a
few days in Clinton Public Hospital.
Miss June Murdoch who spent
Christmas with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. J. Murdoch, returned to New
York last week, making the trip
partly by plane. June is •studying
Interior Decorating .in New York
City.
Week of Prayer
This' week being the "Week of
Prayer," special services will be held
on two evenings, and on Friday af-
ternoon Preparatory Service will be
held in connection with Conununion
Service on Sunday, January 12.
Now that the Christmas holiday
season is over, many of those who
have been spending pleasant visits
with friends and relatives have re -
tamed to their former plaees of resi-
dence. Among those we notice the

.13Ilyth Village Council for 1947
held its inaugural meeting Monday
evening in Memorial Hall. Three
new councillors sat on the board for
the first time, George 'Radford,
Stuart Robinson and John B. Wat-
son. Colin. McNeil and Reeve Bainton
each commenced a second term.
.Following the opening ceremonies
Reeve Bainton welcomed the new
members and expressed his pleasure
in the men chosen by the electors.
He also outlined proposed projects
for 1947 and the duties of each spec-
ial committee.

ed financial aid for the new rest
rooms and modern kitchen to be built
as additions to Memorial Hall. A
grant of unstated' amount was prom.
ised, the size of the grant to depend
on the need, when work commences
in the early spring.

branch of the Canadian Legion, asked
for consideration to ,purchase suitable
rooms; council promised favorable
consideration.

requested a grant for Huron County
Tuberculosis Fund to which a grant
of $25 was given.
A. B. Tasker asked that the council'
provide proper lighting and facilities
for pumping water for the open air
rink -which is being sponsored by the
Lions 'Onsb. This was granted'

Mas Leslie Durward, treasurer,
presented a complete financial state-
ment for 1946 showing a splendid
balance, with a few outstandr,ng taxes
and subsidies of 31,350.00, the first
time in memory of the books closing
with such a balance and ro 'liabilities.
A hearty vote of thanks was ac.
corded Mrs. Durward for her splen-
did report, and her efficient way in
handling the town's finances.
It was decided to keep the streets

The ASniwell Mission. Circle will
hold its regular monthly meeting on

Road Conditions Bad
There were very few out to chute],
on Sunday owing to he condition of
the roads. The services at Burns
and' Constance were both cancelled.
