not make a grant to the band with-

At this, point, Dr.Shaw remarked
that there had been a Board of Trade

behalf of the Town of Clinton, that
"we 'were all saying no," He had

spend they should spend $200,000 on
the rehabilitation of returned men
and $200,000 ongood roads, He had
got the Spring Fair a grant of $200,

Of a son we shall never forget,
His memory to us is a treasure

--Sadly missed by Mom and
and brothers Olayt, and white.
The only, way to keep taxation
down was to get more people in
Clinton. He knew a construction
company in Toronto that would build
50 houses if they could get bhe land
cheap enough -five -roomed bunga-
lows with basement and three-piece
bath. itf you wished to sign an
agreement, you could pay rent for
12 years at $25 ,per month, you could
get oevnership without further
charge.
"Why do I want to go back to th
County Connell" he asked. "I thin
I can do more for .Clinton than an
other man. If the tenders for th
Court House are too high, I woul
lay it over for another three years,
he stated.
C. G. Middleton
C. G. Middleton. said he coul
legally qualify for any position
the town, including'' that of Mayo
He criticised the size of the tiles lai
on lining Street and - Vine: at Hal .
He said he had been in Toronto with
another ratepayer, Mr. Mein, and
found that the Municipal Department
was not in favour of the sewerage
project. • They found the chairman of
the • Municipal Board very much
hail an who st it, but it
boosted it. The
latter had said that Clinton was a
"guinea pig" for' Western Ontario.
"You've heard all about this
famous park," he said. "If it was
in England, they would be producing
food on it." He eharged that the
town had, built the park, anis had
stopped the farmers getting nails,
cement, etc.
A. J. McMurray
urate (Viayon McMurray spoke at soave
length on various features of th
town's !business. 'Es believed th
sato
1946 was one of the :nestprosperou
years Clinton ever had enjoyed. "Th
CouneiI of 1946 has had .its problems
but has overcome them," he stated.
Discussing the sewerage, he wa
rather surprised that anyone caul
Dad try and make us believe it was tooo
big a burden to overcome. That
1-h was not right. The tile was specified
by qualified engineers, and was suf-
ficient to take care of 3,000 people.
The matter had been discussed fully
with the Municipal Board in Toronto,
before going ahead, and the deputa-
tion had given. a splendid hearing.
With regard to finances, the Mayo::
stated that certain expenditures were
made in 1946 that would not need to
be repeated, and there also was the
assistance from the Department of
Education on the collegiate deben-
tures. He urged cooperation din-
ing 1947.
Hugh R. liawlcins
Hugh R.Hawkins said the Utilities
Commassion'was "like a morgue" The
1 people should know more abont it.
He would favor a rebate- of water-
works profits to .the totem, The town
was net lighted up at Christmas,
lvhen it should have been done by
the Commission.
