their way to Listowel, after having

were accompanied by Miss Kay Reid,

John H. Granvelle, Goderich, an
employee of the CIVIR for 42 years,
was retired at his request en his 62nd
birthday, three years in advance of
the retiring age of 65, Mr. Granvelle
served the company first as a bag-
gage porter in Stratford for two
years'after which he went to God-
erich when his father, the /ate Charles
Granvelle was moved there. He work-
ed in the freight sheds for three
years, and then was proraoted to the
car department. Twenty-seven years
ago, he was appointed foreman, of
the car department.
He was born in Holmesville, Nov. 4,
1884, and in April, 1903, he married
Miss Delphine Bedard, Drysdale.
They had two children, Willard, with
the MIR car department at 'Stratford,
and Miss Marie, at home. Mr. Grans
velle's family has had many assoc-
iations with the railway, for his fath-
er, himself and three brothers, his
son and a nephew, have been em-
ployed by the company.
He is looking forward to his re-
tirement with pleasant anticipation
and hopes to enjoy his hobby of bee
keeping; jack rabbit hunting, garden-
ing and fishing-, besides his daily
reading of the newspapers.

Service Well -Attended
A well -attended Remembrance
Service was held on Sunday morn
ing in St. Andrew's United Church.
The veterans of Bay -field and vicinity
attended in a body. The service was
in charge of the Minister, Rev. P. G.
,Stotesbunr. The hymns sung and the
other parts of the service were very
apyropriate. The Minister took for
his text from 2, Sam, 23; 1.5-17. laying
the emphasis upon our sacred obligat-
ions to the cause for which many
made the supreme sacrifice and many
more had put their lives in jeopardy.
Suffering sanctifies life and causes.
We must work the Democratic way at
life, with its ,Ohristian basis of the
supremacy of the human personality
and the right and obligation to have
a voice in our own destins and that
of our nation.. Democracy can best be
worked by using the sctool and
Church. ,Education and Christianity
are the bulwarks of democracy. Dem•
ocracy wants Citizens who can dis-
criminate and think for themselves,
and •Citizens with a sense of their
need of God with His blessing's, guid-
ance and moral law. We feel that the
victory in this second World War has
given us a second chance to work our
democratic way a life.

Farm Forum Meets
&S. No. 4 Farm Forum meeting
was held Monday night at the home
of Mr. and Mts. Harold Lobb, with
an attendance of 18. The topic for
discussion was "What About Farm
Home Improvements."
The discussion was led by Harold
Lobb. Lunch was served by the
ladies at the close of the meeting.
The meeting next week will be at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Irvine
Tebbutt. Fred Lobb and Morgan
Jones will be in charge of the recrea-
tion, and Irvine Tebbutt will lead
the discussion.
HULLETT TOWNSHIP
Farm Forum Meets
The Live Wire Farm Forum af the
13th concession of Hullett met at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. James
Crawford with an attendance of at
The topic discussed was "One of the
main obstacles to faun home im-
provements and how could fatm for-
ums promote farm home improve-
ments in each community." Progres-
sive crokinole was enjoyed with the
following prize winners: Mrs, R. J.
Powell, Gordon Hewett, Bert Lynn,
and Jim McCool. The next meeting
will be held ,at the home of Mr. and
MTS. J. Lyon.
STANLEY 'TOWNSHIP
Miss Freida Blake spent the week-
end at the home of her friends, Misses
Lillian and Betty ,Stewart.
James Stewart arrived home Mon-
day evening from the West after
spending the last eight weeks at
Viking, Alberta. '
Stanley Ladies Meet
Mrs. Prank McGregor gave ter
home for the meeting of Stanley
Ladies' Community Club, held Nov. '7.
Mrs. Cantelon occupied the presi-
dent's chair and the meeting opened
with the Lord's Prayer. The secre-
tary's and treasurer's reports were
given. The roll call was answered by
presenting "Your earliest photo-
graph." The collection amounted to
6'7.05.
Ways and means of raising money
during the winter months were dis-
cussed and Mrs. Graham offered her
home for a party to be held in the
not too distant future. An invitation
was accepted from Turkersmith
Ladies Olub to a social evening to be
held in No. 4 School House on the
evening .of November 15. Mrs. Glen
Broadfoot gave a. reading. Donations
were brought in for a box to be sent
north for distribution by Mrs. Fred
Sloman. Many useful and warm
things were received. Donations were
also brought in for a box to be sent
at Christmas time ti ,Tack Stewart
overseas.
The meeting dosed by singing God
Save the Ring. Nineteen members,
three visitors and five children than
did justice to -the substantial lunch.
The meeting for December will be
held at Mrs. John McGregor's home,
the roll call to be "What you like best
and dislike most about the farm."

man and heartily welcomed those
who have come to live in the com-
munity. Crokinole prizes were viola
by Mrs. J. Crawford, Mr. Vincent,
Mrs. Willin Covier, and I3illy Cowan.
