Goodwin, prominent mer- chant of Hensall, arrived at his home Monday after spending a month's vacation in England with his mother, whom he had not seen since 1918, and who was in her 84th year. The trip was made by plane. Skates Prove Troublesome A new pair of roller skates pre- sented by relatives with whom she was visiting in Hensall, proved troublesome for ten-ytear-old Dorothy MeClinehey, daughter of M-. and Mrs, Garnet MeClinchey, Seaforth. Try- ing the skates on the main street Sat- urday night she fell and received a severely fractured arm. The fracture was reduced at &1St Meln*Tial Hos- pital, Seaforth. bia.P.V• eitizerse «f Beyfield learned ef the death in Toronto on Thursday, Aug- ust 15, of a native son of whom they were justly proud, in the person of Alexander Ford King, 194 Cortleigh Blvd. Deceased, who was born June 4, 1895, was the son of Mrs. and Mrs. George King of the village. He re- ceived his early education at Bay- field Public School and attended God- erich Collegiate Institute and Faculty of Education, Toronto. His teaching career began when he supplied at Londesboro for several months be- fore attending Faculty. Following his graduation, he was on the staff of the Withrow Avenue School, Tor- onto, for six months before enlisting n the Canadian Artny in 1914. Ile served overseas with the Artillery for three years. Following his demobili- zation he attended Toronto 'University for a year, specializing in Science and Mathematics. In 1919 he joined the firm of PriceeWaterhouie and Company, chartered accountants, and 'was admitted to the partnership in 1939, from which he retired in. June of this year. We welcome home Kenneth Castle who, with his Scottish wife end two children, Kenneth and Gary, arrived in the vMage .on Wednesday of last week, having come from overseas aboard the "Queen Marv." Kenneth who is the second son of Mr, and Mrs. Thomas W. Castle, lef here in 1940 to join the British Merchant ,Service and in which he served until July of this year. He was aboard the "Oslofjcrrd" when she struck a mine and .s•ank off the Eng- lish coast, TWe hours later he was rescued. While serving aboard a tanker returning from Malta it col lided with another Ship in the English Channel and had to be towed to port Perilous sea voyages took him to Russia, Egypt, Italy and many ports on the continent. "Kenny" is delighted to be back in Canada. At present he and his family are visiting his parents. And we bid his young wife welcome to our midst! Formerly Agnes (Nancy) Anderson, daughter of Mrs. B. 'rat- io& and the late Walter Anderson of Edinburgh, she made her home with her grandfather, John Mackaill, who resided near Edinliurgh Castle, and it was there that many of her hus- band's friends from this vicinity found a warm welcome when on leave in that city. • . Mrs. Clarke led in prayer and Ruth Shaddiek read the scripture. The minutes of the last meeting wits read and the roil call. The treasurer's report was given and then the business part of the meeting took place. Mrs. Sid Lansing invited us to her home for the September meeting and Lois Wood and Margaret Tanthlyn were appointed for the pro- gramme coinrnittee. The offering was taken up and hymn "Breathe on me Breath of God" vvas then sung. Thelma Shobbrook then gave a Tern- peranee reading following which Mar- garet Tamblyn gave the study Book Hymn. 376 "Blest, be t'he Tie that Wadi" was then stung and tb,e meet- ing closed with the Mizpah Benedict- ion after which the hostess served lunch to everyone.
