13Y GORDON STOCK
IN MITCHELL GAME
Emerging from several years' re-
tirement, Gordon Stock, Holmesville's
contribution to Clinton Colts, deserv-
ed a shut -out and almost got one as
he pitched the local team to a 11-1
victory in a Huron -Perth Baseball
League fixture at Miethell Friday
evening last.
Here's how close to a shut -out
Gordon was. There were two out in
the last of the ninth and two runners
on the hasea Up comes to bat "Izzy"
Powell, a Clinton boy who is catching
for Mitchel/. "Izzy" knocked a Texas
leaguer
to Centre and the Mitchell
runner (also 'Stock by name) raged
for home. "Stioker" (Dew threw to
the plate to catch Stock, but catcher
Laurie Colquhoun dropped the • ball.
11116 eXt batter WAS Out at first to
end the game.
The Colts have been a good offens-
ive team all season but not so good
defensively. At Mitchell, they chew-
ed the best defensive ball yet display-
ed with only one error and that a
minor one.
Every player on the Clinton team
had one or more safe hits, Bert White
being top man with three and also
two runs. It also was noteworthy
that every, player on the Mitchell
team had at leash one put out to his
credit,
