Stuart Sturgeon, accompanied by

ed the War Veteran's picnic at Preston

cules. As the gasoline goes into the cylinders from the carburetor, some of the "heavy"

The S. S. No. 5 picnic was held at
the farni home of Mr. and Mrs.. Alvin
Proetor on Friday evening. A good
supper was provided by those attend-
ing, Ice cream and choclate milk for
the children. A nice time was enjoyed

Community Club Meets
Porters Hill Community Club held
its June meeting at the home of Mrs.
A. Lockhart Wednesday, June 26,
Their was a good attendance. A quilt
was quilted. A splendid lot of good
used clothing was brought in. Arrange
merits was made for meetings each
month during the year. Work during
the coming month was discussed. Next
meeting to be at Mrs. John McGuire's
home. Lunch was served by the
hotess.

week end to meet the Summer Tourist
trade. Mrs. J. E. Hovey has opened
a gift shop in the west half of their
store. Mrs. Irene Bassett is selling
antiques in C. Toms shop and L. Ed•
ighoffer of Mitchell has established
a Toggery and sports shop in the old
13ranclon home which he ,purchased
last Autumn and has had renovated.

In the Kings honor list for Domin-
ion Day the 0. B. E. was conferred
on Harold Allin Rogers, Toronto, eld-
est son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rog-
ers of Hainilton and Bayfield.
Rogers founded the first Kinsmen
Club about twenty-six Fears ago, foll-
owing the first world War. There
are now about 130 clubs throughout
this country. During this last con-
flict Mr. Rogers was chairman or the
Kinsmen War Services committee
which sent some thirty-two million
quarts of milk in their "Milk for
Britain" campaign. His friends rejoice
that his outstanding effort in this
eonnection has been recognized.
Help Tornado Victims.
The local branch of the Canadian
Red Cross Society received a telegram
from Leopold 1VlacCaulay, President
of the Ontario Division, appealing for
funds for the relief of stricken famil-
ies in the recent Windsor disaster.
The suin of $350,000 is needed from
Ontario to complete the work of re-
habitation. At this time the local
organization is not prepared for a
house - to - house canvas, but any don-
ations may be left with the following

happy couple went on their honey-

and Mrs,. Gogetters home who lives an

grandmothers sitting down. At the
close toasts were proposed.

and Mrs. Martha Lyon this was re-
sponded -to by Mrs. A. D. Penman.
Mrs. Jennie Lyon proposed a toa4
to the King. All joined in singing
God save the King. This brought a
most enjoyable afternoon to a close
with 27 present Mrs. G. McVittie
supplied the music for the day.

The Shobbrook Family held their-

Clinton Public Hospital on Saturday

Grandmothers Meeting
The Grandmothers Cherrio Club
held its regular meeting on Thursday
June 27 which opened by all singing.
("When we all get to-gether") foll-
owed by the Maple Leaf. The Lord's
Prayer was repeated in unison. Min-
utes were read and approved. Roll
Call was answered by "Your Favour-
ite flower". After business was con-
cluded The following program was
given Solo (Some folks do). A &let
was rendered by two of -the grand-
mothers dressed in costume. (When
you and I were young Maggie). There
was a guessing contest of buttons in
a bottle. A mock Wedding was staged
by five of the Grandmothers dres.sed
in old time costumes the name aro
(fictiteous).
The Wedding took place before a
background of peonies and fern When
the lovely bride Samantha Rose Mary
daughter of Mrs. Martha Jane Pepper
was united to Job Tobias Crabtree.
The Rector, Timothy Mansfield, per-
formed the ceremony.
The bride, who was given in marr-
iage by her mother, Martha Jane Pep-
per, looked charming in a Cashmere
floor length gown with a long train.
The bride also wore m long veil with
a wreath of orange blossoms she carr-
ied a bouquet of peonies and fern
(This gown was worn 42 years ago by places. A full day was enjoyed by
Miss Mary Pearson when she became all.

the misfortune to fracture her leg and
was unable to attend. The election

Sports Committee Mr. and Mrs. Har-
vey Bunking and Mr. and Mrs. Percy
Gibbings. During the afternoon Mr,
and Mrs, William Willard took pict-
ures with their moving camera.
In the evening 35 of the picnicers
gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
P. Gibbing& to see some of the moving
pictures showed by Mr. and Mrs. Will-
ard of Buffalo and around Western
Ontario Muskoka and numerous other
