M. S. of Cannel Presbyterian °hutch was held Thursday after- noon, December 8, with the pres- ident, Mrs. C. S. Hudson, presid- ing. The meeting opened with the singing of Christmas carols and the Christmas story. Rgv. P. A. Ferguson .addressed the meet- ing delivering an inspiring c.hrietmas message end installed the.officer. Reports submitted by the sec- retaries disclosed an outstanding year with finances all above the previous year. Following are the officers for 1949-1950: Honorary president, Mrs. 11. United Church AVMS The annual meeting of the Woman's Missionary Society of the United Church was held Thurs- day afternoon, December 8. Mrs. E. Geiger, in the chair; Mrs. H. McMurtrie acted as secretary in the absence of Mrs. L. Mickle, The Scripture lesson was read by Mrs. N. E. Cook, and prayer offered by Miss Ellis. Visiting committee reported 14 calls made to 'sick and shut-ins. Splendid reports were presented by the -secretaries of the different or- ganizations showing an increase in givings and memberships dur- ing the year. Mrs. Maude Redden rendered a solo, "It came upon the midnight clear"; Mrs. T. J. Sherritt at the paino. Rev. R. A. Brook ;addressed the meeting, choosing for Ins theme, "The Bethlehem High- way," He congratulated the or- ganization of 55 members on the work and achievement accomp- lished during the year and wish- ed them a splendid year and suc- cess for 1950. Plan Christmas Tree The regular meeting of Hensall Chamber ,of Commerce was held in the Council Chamber Monday evening Dec. 5. Walter Spencer was chairman in geence of the President, R. IL Middleton. J. Irwin, treasurer, reported on finances from the recent frolic, the net proceeds were $1,524. It was decided to transfer $1,500 to the Building Fund. key team, and it was decided to have a senior team and a couple of'junior teams playing this winter. Successful Dance A successful euchre and dance was held in the Town Hall, Fri- day Mght, Dec. 3, sponsored by Amber Rebekah and IOOF lodges, Some 30 tables were in play for the euchre, Winners: ladies' 1st, Mrs. Chesney, Brucefield; 2nd, Miss Minnie Reid, Hensall; gents, lst, Lorne Luker, Hensall; 2nd, Dave Kyle, Hensall. Mrs. Alice Joynt won the door prize, a duck. Music was furnished by Murdock's orchestra. Laird Mickle spent a few days in Toronto last week on busi- ness and while there took in the hockey game at Maple Leaf Gardens Saturday night between Nevi York Hangers and the Maple Leafs.
