Community Club Meets
The Ladies of Stanley Com-
munity Club held their Novem-
ber meeting at the home of. Mrs.
Goldie, Graham with the presi-
dent, Mrs. Broadfoot, in the
chair. The secretary's and treas-
urer's reports were given, and
the roll call, `My Favourite
Recipe," was answered by 17
members, three ' visitors and six
children.
During the business period it
was decided to donate another
$10 to the UEFB. Plans "'were
made to send a bale to Northern
Ontario hi December. Last min-
ute pions' were completed for the
party which was held in the
sohool the next night.
A lovely lunch was served by
the hostess and her group.
The next meeting will be held
at the home of Mrs. John A. Me -
Ewen. The roll call will be an-
swered with a riddle or a joke.
Mrs. Frank McGregor, Jack and
Catherine, spent the weekend in
Toronto, and while there attend-
ed the Ice Capades and the
hockey match.

a trip through the Vest.
Mrs. Bar$lle Thomson, end
sister, Mrs. Harry Chesney, of
Tuckersmith,' are visiting friends
in Toronto this week.
Mrs. Marion Laramie, and

home of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Mc-
Ewen over the weekend.
Mr. and Mrs, Handel Pepper
and Carol Ann, Sudbury, are
spending a few weeks with John

Alta., formerly of Londesboro,
spent the weekend at the home
of 'his uncle and aunt, Mr and
Mrs. George Moon. He enjoyed
very much to visit the site of his
old home, the old nu -ter factory,
which was on the corner of the
Allen Shaddick farm.

Present Play
A large crowd attended the
play presented in Walton Com-
munity Hall on Friday evening,
entitled "The Backwoods Romeo"
It was put on by the Young 'Peop-
le, of Londesboro, under the
auspices.. of the choir of Duffs
United Church. Musical numbers
were given between acts, includ-
ing' a solo by Mrs. Herb Travis;
piano selection, Miss Mavis Oliv-
er. Lunch was served to the
players by members of the choir.

WMS was held in the church
school rooms on Thursday, Nov..

Webster, leader ,of group No. 1,
reading the Call to Worship
Hymn 162 was sang followed with
prayer by Mrs. Webster. The
programme of the Missiaanry
Monthly was followed, all taking
part. Mrs. Fangrad sang a pleas-
ing solo, "The 'Love of God."
Mrs. Alexander took up the of-
fering. This concluded the wor-
ship period. The president, Mrs.
Townsend, then took the chair.
Miss Young spoke on Christian
Stewardship.
A nominating committee of
three --,Mrs. Ivan Carter, Mrs. J.
Armstrong, Mrs. W. Govier—was
appointed to bring in the slate of
officers for the year 1950. A re-
quest is made to bring your mite
boxes in to the December meet-
ing, or leave with Mrs. W. Lyon.
A report of the Sectional Meet-
ing df the WMS, held recently at,
Brucefield, was given by Mrs.
Fangrad. Psalm 744 was read al-
ternately. Hymn 99 was sang,
and meeting closed by the Miz-
pah Benediction.

operation in Clinton Public Hos-
pital; she is getting along nicely.

Mrs. Nellie Watson and her
mother on Sunday.
Fire Protection
' Work has commenced on the
building of the four water tanks
for fire protection in the village.
George Radford's gang, Blyth, are
doing the digging.
Minister Returns
Dr. R. Grierson has taken the
church services far the past two
Sundays. The pastor Rev, S. H.
Brenton, was called to Vancouv-
er, owing to the sudden death of
his brother. Mr. Brenton went
by air, arriving home on Satur-
day. We are pleased to see him
back again, The sympathy of the
community is extended to him
and Mrs. Brenton, in their sad
bereavement.'
Young People Busy
The Young People of the Unit-
ed Church are kept busy lately
putting on their play, "Romeio."
Lest week they wete to Ailsa
Craig and on Tuesday night this
week, will be at Port Albert; on
Friday night at Walton. They
have several other places booked,
which will geep them going for
some time.
Home Prom Hospital
Mr. Henry Adams has returned
home, having undergone a ser-
ious operation in London recent-
ly. For a man of 88 years he
came through the operation in
fair shape and is now able to be
up around the house, and doing
as well as can be expected.
SUMMERHILL
Ladies' Club Meets
The November meeting of Sum-
merhiLrl Ladies'. Club .was held at
the home of Laura Forbes with
25 members end five visitors
present. The "meeting opened
with the singing of the Maple
Leaf Forever, and the repeating
of the Lord's Prayer in unison.
The minutes of the last meet-

"Thank You" cards were received,
from Mrs. Russel Good and. Mrs.
Millson, A quilt was started dur-
ing the afternoon.

by Laura Forbes, Mrs.Knoblauch
won the raffle.

will be a gift suitable for a child.
