Lions Get One Single
Beat Wallaceburg .' 2-1
Clinton Lions squeaked through
with a 2-1 victory over Wallace=
burg Kinsmen in the first game
, of their best -of -three OBA Mid-
get "B" baseball semi-final play -
down series here Tuesday after-
noon.
Accompanied by a few of their
most ardent supporters, the local
team left for Wallaceburg this
morning for the return matdh
this afternoon,
Tuesday's game was almost too
close for comfort, but it was one
of the best games of this long.
season, turning out to be a
pitchers' duel par excellence.
Jack Wilson, on the mound for
Lions, played a stellar role in
keeping the visitors down to four
safe hits, and he secured the only
safe hit Lions were able to garner.
It came in the seventh with one
out, and was an infield hit along
the third base line. Jack just
beat out the throw and that's all,
after which the first baseman
dropped the ball, •
.On the next play, Wilson was
forced at second by Taylor, but
the latter came all the way home
when the .Wallaceburg catcher
threw high to •second and the
ball bounced away out into the
,outfield, the centrefielder even
'fumbling it.
The second and winning run
for Lions came in the eighth when
Carter was safe on first baseman's
error, stole second, went to third
on a passed ball, and home on
Cam Maltby's fielder's choice.
,The ball was played to the plate
Wallaceburg's only run was
tallied in the fifth after two were
out on successive singles by Arm-
itage and McGee.
Wallaceburg threatened in the
ninth and had two on with one
out, but Wilson struck out the
next batter and the third out was
made by Cowan in right field on
a lovely catch of a long fly with
two runners on the sacks.
MIDGETS OUST
SHALLOW LAKE
IN 3-2 EFFORT
In a real thriller, Clinton Lions
eliminated Shallow Lake in the
third game of their OBA Midget
`B" round at Walkerton Friday
last, winning by 3-2 in the tenth
inning.
Lions won the game in the
first of the tenth when Bob Car-
rick singled, stole second and
third, and then galloped home
