A few years ago, purebred
"Holstein herds in Huron County
were few end far between. An
indication of how the picture is
now changing was given at the
'Huron Black and. White Day held
in connection with Blyth Fair,
"when 27 exhibitors brought out
n total of 138 head, -to make this
one of the largest Holstein shows
' ;yet held in the province this year.
This undoubtedly was the best
quality Holstein show yet held
in Huron and Judge A. D. Run -
lone, Ontario Agricultural Col-
lege, Guelph, expressed himself

singling out the Junior , and, Sen-
ior Calf classes, the dry two -year-
olds and the milking three+year-
olds for particular attention.
Sally Tensen Pioneer proved
herself not only a good show cow
but anoutstanding brood cow as
well when she carried off the
Senior and Grand Championships
after heading the Aged Cows in
milk for Ross Marshall, Kirkton,
and then scored through her
progeny. Her Junior Buil Calf
by Montvic Rag Apple Sovereign
was first and Junior Champion
and her two-year-old daughter,
also by Sovereign, stood second
in her class.
VanEgmond Win
Sovereign sons, daughters and
granddaughters topped many
classes and a group of Sovereign
granddaughters won the Senior
Get -of -Sire for J. W. VanEgmond
and Son, Clinton. This group in-
cluded the Reserve Senior and
Reserve Grand Champion Female
Egmont Sovereign Sue who head-
ed the milking ' three -year -aid
class,
Rossholm Nally Sovereign, a
Sovereign granddaughter was
Junior Champion Female for
Leonard Leeming, Walton, after
heading the Senior ' Heifer Calf
Class while a Sovereign daughter,
Hilight Sovereign. Clothilde, own-
ed, by Thomas Hayden and Son,
Gorrie, was Reserve Junior
Champion. The latter animal, a
Junior Heifer Calf, is out of
Hayden's famous World Champ-
ion producer Banostine Dutchiand
Clothilde with her Senior. two-
year-old 305 day twice -a -day
mliking record of 623 lbs. fat
from 16,277 lbs. milk.
Maurice Hellahan of S. Halls-
han and Son, Belgrave, showed
the winning Junior Yearling Heif-
er. Another member of the same
herd stood second in this class.

Walpine K. B. Max Ragapex,
owned by Reg. McKiel, Clinton.
Reserve went to the second place

Marshall, Kirkton, took the Jun-
ior award on Meri Acres Sover-
eign the top Junior Bull Calf
with the Reserve Junior going
to S. C. Galbraith, Blyth, on the
winning Junior Yearling Vinedale

Three exhibitors each had four
firsts. These were W. Hume
Clutton, Goderieh; Ross Marshall,
Kirkton; and Leonard Learning,
Walton, Jarrott .Bros„ Ktppen,
and J. W. VanEgmond, Clinton,
each had two firsts while the
following had one first each: Reg,
McNiel, Clinton; S. C. Galbraith,
Blyth; Howard Feagan, Goderich;

Community Club, Meeting
The monthly meeting of the
Porter's Hill Community Club
was held on Wednesday, Septem-
ber.21, at the home of. Mrs. Peter
Harrison, with a good attendance.
The meeting was in charge of the

contest conducted. by Mrs. G.
Cob:lough, . was won by Mrs. Bert
Harris, after which a , delicious
lunch was served by the hostess.

Happy Workers' Club ..
The Happy Workers' Club held
its meeting at the home of Mrs.
George Glazier. The meeting op-
ened with the singing of "Stand
up for Jesus," followed by the
Lord's Prayer repeated in unison.
There 'were 16 members present.
The afternoon was spent in a
social form. Mrs. Hugh Ball won
the prize. The collection amount-
ed to $3.23. A dainty lunch was
served by Group 1 which con-

Hereford Stock ought
At Dispersal Sale
George Kennedy, West Wawa-
nosh attended the recent sale of
Hereford stock at the Old Or-
chard Farms, near • Peterborough
and purchased seven head ate.a
cost of $4,320.
A number of the Old Orchard
herd came 'to Huron County. In
addition, to Mr. Kennedy's pur-
chase, H. 1; L. Eedy, Dungannon,
bought a cow for $775. J. A. Sully,
Goderich, bought five head and
11 head were purchased 'by . the
Jervis farm at, Holmesville.

United Anniversary
Knox United Church was de-

Grandmothers at WI
The Foresters Hall here was
attractively decorated with bas -
gets of gladioli and asters for
the annual "Grandmothers" meet -
ing of Auburn Women's Institute
The president, Mrs. Albert
Campbell, presided for the pro -
gram, which was presented by
the grandmothers. The program
opened with a chorus by the
grandmothers followed by a read -
