champions, in their second -round
OBA Intermediate "C" baseball
series.
The
third and deciding match
will be played at Listowel this
Saturday afternoon at,three
o'clock. It'e do-or-die for ughie
Hawkins' boys!
After eliminating Hensel' in
two straight for the Huron -
Perth League's Venus Trophy,
Colts defeated Durham here
Thursday last by '6-4.
However, at Durham on Sat-
urday afternoon, they came a
cropper and dropped the match
11-10 after amassing a 9-1 lead
midway through the sixth.

Colts 'had the first game at
home well inhandthroughout,
taking • a 7-2 . margin: at the end
of the second and keeping four
of the leadto the end.
Bob Draper pitched the entire
(show and kept the Durham hits
well scattered. Capel, the Owen
Sound lad playing for Durham,
relieved Long in the second with
none out and retired the side.
From then on, he turned in a
good chore of twirling, striking
out'
ten Clinton n batsmen.
For the visitors, ShenIs had
three hits in four, and Long, two
in five, while Bill Craig, Neilens
and Draper each had two Safeties
for Clinton. Neilans' pair, were
doubles. Durham had eight left
on, and Clinton five.

through the sixth frame. But in
the, seventh , things began to
happen. Gordon Stock relieved.
Bob Craig on the Clinton mound
as the second batter name up, and
then he was pulled for Bob Drap-
er in the eighth as the second
man came to hat. Durham tied
it up, 10-10, in this session.
Three strikeouts and a walk
finished off Colts in the first of
the ninth, but in the last half, ar
error end two safe hits combined
to give Durham the winning run
with two out. It was a tough
game to Iose.
It was a free -hitting match,
each team knocking out 14 —
rather heavy for championship
ball. Neilans had a big day with
four hits in five trips, Including
a homer and a double, Wilson
three
and a walk in five, Schoen-
hals two in five, including a
double, and 'Woodcock two in five.
Ter Durham, May had, three in
six, Russell three end a walk in
six, Capel, Long and Maclnnes,
two each.

Clinton Colts polished off Hen-
sall in two straight for the Venus
Trophy and the right to represent
the Huron -Perth League • in the
OBA Intermediate "C" playdowns,
winning the first game in Clin-
ton 16=9, end ;the second in Hen -
sell 10-6.
Bob•Draper went the, route in
the game at Hensall, with Bob
Sadler his opponent, for the full
nine innings.
Batting honors went to Bill
Craig with three in live, Bartliff
with two and a walk in five. and
Kerslake with two hits and two
walks in four trips, Neilans
knocked a homer with two on in
the sixth.

The WMS of Wesley -Willis
United Church met in the lec-
ture room of the church Thurs-
day evening, September 15, with
the president, Mrs. Hearn, in the
chair, and Mrs. Agnew at the
piano.
Reports from the various sec-
retaries and the treasurer were
heard. Miss M. A. Stone gave a
talk on Stewardship. Mrs. Hearn
introduced the new Study Book,
"Growing with the years," which
was written by Dr. Kenneth Beat-
on. Plans were made to pack a
bale on Friday, September 30.
Mrs: W. M. Nediger favored with
a solo "Leave it with Him."
Great interest was shown in
the excellent talk given by Miss
R. V. Irwin on her cruise to South
America during the past spring.
The meeting closed with the
Benediction.
"Casey Jones," the railroad
engineer celebrated in the song,
was a real person—John Luther
Jones --and was killed . in the
well -sung accident, April 30, 190(1

IN TAKING TITLE
In their most exciting games
of the season, Clinton Legionettes
defeated . Palmerston 10-9 in
Palmerston Wednesday That, and
thus won the WOAA Junior Girls'
Softball Championship.
Legionettes' "previously h a d
trimmed Palmerston 16-9 at
Clinton, and thus won the series
in two straight. They played 12
games without,, a loss' this season.
The batteries for Clinton were
JoAnne Castle and Shirley Proc-
tor, Miss Castle struck out two
batters end walked two. Hamil-
ton, throwing them up for Palm-
erston, struck out eight and walk-
ed one.
A homerun was hit by Gipp of
Palmerston while Bette Woolfrey
of the Legionettes' did well for
herself. with .a double and a
triple. Excellent catches were
made during the,.game: by Lorine
Garen, Ruth 'Clew and Bette
Woolfrey of Clinton.

Ruth Glew smashed the only,
homerun of the genie in the sec-,
and inning with the bases loaded.

JoAnne Castle, Lorine Garen and
Dorothy 1VLaneghan hit singles..
Altogether the Legionettes reek-
ed up 11 hits off McCallum who
struck out five girls.

called a meeting of Clinton Bad-
minton Club to be held in the
Town Council Chamber, Friday,
September 30, at 8 p.eit., for the
