After hearing the evidence of
the first crown witness, Hubert
Griese, Londesboro, changed his
plea from not guilty to guilty
August 23, when he was arrainged
before Magistrate A. F. Cools on
a charge of drunk driving.
He was given a seven-day jail
term, ordered to pay costs or
serve an additional seven days
in jail, had his car impounded
for three months and his right
to drive suspended for six months,
The first witness, Provincial
'Constable R. P. Bruce, said he
saw the accused in a ear parked
on the north lane of No. 8 High-
way with the motor and lights
on. When he went over to the
carhe found he accused sleeping
behind the wheel, The first ef-
forts ofthe constabIe to arouse
Griese failed, until he was stood
up outside the car. Constable
Bruce said the accused was drunk.
Following this evidence S. K.
Hunter, Goderich, defence coun-
sel, asked the magistrate for time
to confer with his client and
then requested the change of plea.
Provincial Constable William
Hodgins of the Seaforth detach-
ment, a passenger in the police
cruiser, se , cor a

ence of the first policeman.

International Match
For the first time in its hist-
o etetrie in
ry, s the International
Plowing Match next October,
will be confined to those who
have qualified at county plowing
matches and branch"matches in
Ontario or at a recognized match
elsewhere. The Intternational
Match, world's largest plowing
competition, will l!e held this
year at Burford in Brant County.
In announcing the restriction
of entry lists, J. A. Carroll, man-
ager, said that "this step was
deemed necessary because of the
heavy entry list at recent matches
and an anticipated increase this
year." He explained that to
prpvide lend, teams and tractors
for 1,000 entries would place p
heavy load on the host county
committee.
